We hope everyone is enjoying their Three Day Weekend :)
Thank You to everyone who came out to meet and visit with our visiting 5th graders for Open House! We had several groups of students on campus, and we were able to share a little bit about what makes the Band at Haynes so special. Now is a great time for ALL of us to share our positive experiences in Band with potential members. Thanks again to everyone who participated!
Our Jazz Band One will continue to practice this Wednesday as we prepare for the Loyola and Southeastern Jazz Festivals.
Several of our students will soon be performing with the District Six Honor Bands! Honor Band weekend is Jan. 20-22, and all events will be held at Dixon Hall on the campus of Tulane University. All students must pay a $15 registration fee to participate in the District Honor Band.
Please note that some of this weekend's times have been changed to accommodate some other activities on the Tulane campus. See the UPDATED schedule for Honor Band weekend here: Honor Band weekend schedule
The Band from Rundle Academy (in Calgary, Alberta, Canada!) will be traveling to New Orleans to perform in a Mardi Gras parade. While they are here they will visit Haynes Academy, and we'll have the opportunity to visit and play together. Learn more about their school here:
It's time for us to begin planning for our annual Taste and Tunes performance. We will have our next Planning Meeting on Thursday Jan. 26 at 6:00 pm in the Band Room. Please contact Mr. Phelan if you are interested in helping us to plan and organize our biggest performance of the year.
We will soon be placing an order for our Haynes Band t-shirts and sweatshirts. (We have many sizes in stock, but will be ordering a few extras to replenish as needed. Please order a new t-shirt or sweatshirt to show your support of our amazing students, using this form:

Our High School Band has resumed our weekly practices on Tuesday and Thursday until 5:00 pm. Attendance at these practices is required to participate in future performances. Thank You to all of our students who attend every rehearsal!
We will have Concert Practice on Tuesday, and Marching Practice on Thursday this week (to work around predicted rain).
All musicians participating in the Krewe of Mad Hatters must come during their lunch period to be sized for a uniform. Students must have plain black shoes and socks (no logos, stripes or other decorations are acceptable).
Every student is asked to bring a case of water for our upcoming parade and practices. Students may drop off their water before or after school in the Band Room.
No matter your school of choice, Band is one of the most fun and rewarding activities you can join. You will immediately make tons of new friends, find a "home" on campus, and become an active member of your school community from Day One. Most schools also offer some form of Band Scholarship for participating in Band. (Many of these scholarships are not related to being a Music Major -- instead they are focused on students who just want to PLAY FOR FUN!)
We strongly encourage all of our students to explore the musical offerings at your school of choice. Please contact Mr. Phelan if you would like additional information. We are working to arrange on-campus meetings with the various Music and Band folks as part of this year's Junior Journey trip, and will keep everyone posted as that date approaches.
We will begin to explore "Serengeti Dreams" this week. Listen for tons of exciting melodies, rhythms, and loads of fun Percussion instruments, too!
Remember: Focus on one measure at a time as you learn.
We invite our Middle School musicians to join us for High School Band practices on Tuesday and Thursday.
We received "Asturias" this week, and will begin putting it together in our next rehearsal. We want to extend a special Thank You to Zoe for coming to work with us during our class on Friday!
We invite our Middle School musicians to join us for High School Band practices on Tuesday and Thursday.
We encourage all of our middle and high school musicians to attend the Stately Oaks Band Festival at LSU in early February, where they will perform with other young musicians from across Louisiana and beyond and work with LSU faculty and staff. Follow the link above, or contact Mr. Phelan for more information.
We also encourage our high school musicians to attend the All South Honor Band weekend at USM in February, where they will perform with other young musicians from across the South. They will also get to work with USM faculty and staff. Follow the link above, or contact Mr. Phelan for more information.
We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
