Activities in the TEKS-based Art curriculum will be centered on exploring the elements and principles of art in selected 2-D projects which may include drawing, design, and painting. A variety of mediums will be used to create 2 dimensional artwork. This course is for 6th grade students and students taking Art for the first time. This course pairs with Theatre I.
Students will further explore the elements of art and design principles in selected 2-D and 3-D projects as introduced in Art I. Students will be encouraged and expected to display a higher degree of initiative and creativity in the production of all work, regardless of chosen medium, whether it be ceramics, painting, drawing, cartooning, photography, or computer art. Students may, at times, complete independent projects with a teacher-approved goal in mind.

Beginning band is open to any 6th grade student regardless of musical background or experience. The beginning band classes provide instruction on basic music theory, as well as the fundamentals of how to play the following instruments: Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. Students will have the opportunity to try out the different instruments in the spring of their 5th grade year in order to place them in the proper class period in 6th grade. Once an instrument is selected, it is the responsibility of the student and their parents to arrange for an instrument to play. The school will always have oboes, bassoons, French horns, euphoniums, and tubas available for rent through the school. The school will also have bass clarinets, as well as tenor and Bari saxophones for rent in later grade levels. In addition, the school will have a limited number of the other instruments for rent through the school with the exception of the alto saxophone and the percussion bell kits.
Students will have a minimal financial obligation, as well as, several performance requirements throughout the school year.
Students enrolled in 7th grade band will be placed in ability based bands at the start of the school year. These selections will be made based on audition, attitude, work ethic, and dependability. The auditions for these groups will be in May; however, each student will be observed throughout the year. In regards to playing ability, students will be judged on tone production, rhythmic and note accuracy, counting ability, range, and technique.

Vocal techniques, vocal development, sight-reading, music terminology, and the development of musical self-expression are emphasized. Beginning choir will perform publicly several times, which includes fall and winter concerts, as well as other opportunities to perform throughout the year.
Choir is a full year course designed to introduce students to the technical activities and studies needed for individual and group vocal production. Vocal techniques, vocal development, sight-reading, music terminology, and the development of musical self-expression are emphasized. Beginning choir will perform publicly several times, which includes fall and winter concerts, as well as other opportunities to perform throughout the year.
This course is a continuation of Choir I. Students can be placed in one of several individual choirs based on the following criteria: grades, audition, or director recommendation. Classes may be gender specific or a mixed group of girls and boys based on program requirements. Students are expected to participate in a variety of before-school and after-school activities, extracurricular performances, evening concerts and events. All students enrolled in this course are eligible to attend the end of year performance-based trip.
Students will be introduced to dance fundamentals, dance terminology, and technical skills in a variety of dance genres such as lyrical, contemporary, modern, jazz, hip-hop, and cultural. Students will also be taught the correct techniques for the performance of various pieces of equipment such as the flag and rifle. Class participation will include several performance opportunities. This course is for 6th grade students and students taking Color Guard for the first time.
Students will be introduced to dance fundamentals, dance terminology, and technical skills in a variety of dance genres such as lyrical, contemporary, modern, jazz, hip-hop, and cultural. Students will also be taught the correct techniques for the performance of various pieces of equipment such as the flag and rifle. Class participation will include several performance opportunities. This course is for students taking Color Guard for the second time.

Students will build on their ability to connect movements and memorization of dance choreography. They will have an opportunity to choreograph in small groups and submit their work. They will perform in both Fall and Spring Dance Shows. This course is for 6th grade students and students taking Dance for the first time.

During this course, students will read and use a play to learn about all aspects of drama, in preparation for producing a play. Students may have the opportunity to sew, write, perform monologues, pantomime, improvise, build scenery models, build props, perform songs, design and apply makeup. This course is for students in the 6th grade and for students taking Theatre for the first time. This course pairs with Art I.

Students will read plays, act and write monologues, learn stage etiquette, the areas of the stage, the audition process, perform scenes, sew and much more.
