My name is Linsey Unnerstall, and I'm thrilled to be your child's math teacher this school year! It's a true privilege to be part of their learning journey, and I look forward to getting to know both you and your child.
I grew up on North Padre Island in Corpus Christi, where I spent my time either at the beach or helping out in my mom's classroom. Those early experiences sparked my passion for education. I then pursued my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on math at Texas A&M University in College Station.
After graduating, I taught for four years in Burleson ISD before moving to Pilot Point. I then spent 6 wonderful years teaching for Frisco I.S.D. Last Year was my 11th year of teaching, but My first in Joshua I.S.D. Wherever I have taught, I have been blessed with the best teachers, admin students, and parents.
My husband and I just moved to this area a little over a year ago and we're already loving the community! We share our home with our three dogs—Scout, Bubba, and Merle Haggard—and our cat, Captain. When I'm not teaching, you can find me reading, listening to audio books, watching movies, cooking, or spending time with friends and family.
I'm incredibly excited about the upcoming school year and can't wait to create a positive and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive. I'm truly thrilled about making this a great year for everyone!
Class Information
Specials: Students rotate through PE, Music, and Computers. Please watch for the posted schedule.
Communication (Class Dojo): We use Class Dojo to share classroom news and learning highlights. You will receive an invitation to join shortly.
Weekly Updates: I send weekly updates via Class Dojo messenger regarding class activities and upcoming events. Please check these regularly, as they contain important information.
Caddo Folders: These go home daily. Please ensure the behavior calendar remains inside at all times. The folder should be returned to school every day along with the included monthly menu and event calendar.
Behavior Expectations: We track behavior using monthly calendars. Please sign your child's behavior chart/calendar daily so we know you are aware of their daily progress. Students earn marks for unmet expectations after a warning; serious behaviors (e.g., physical contact) result in immediate marks. For serious concerns, we will reach out directly via Class Dojo or phone.
Grading: Students receive two math grades per week.
Homework: Homework is required, though not graded. Students receive one math question per night, which is reviewed in class the following day. Students may complete all 3-4 weekly questions at once or one per night.
Absent Work: For prolonged absences, please contact me to arrange pick-up of take-home work. Students have the equivalent amount of time they were absent to complete make-up assignments.
Note: More detailed information will be provided in the upcoming Curriculum Night slides.
I will send a math weekly update via email or dojo, but you may refer to the link below to view the year at a glance.
