Instrument Rental

BEGINNING STUDENTS, PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE AN INSTRUMENT!!

Renting is the best option for your student as they are learning to play a string instrument. You can find inexpensive new and used instruments of all sizes and colors for sale on internet sites and listings, but in almost all cases, these instruments are completely unplayable and are unacceptable for orchestra class. Additionally, as students grow, so must their instrument. Renting an instrument from a reputable music store that is the correct size and of good quality will help your student progress and eliminate LOTS of frustration!

*If your student has access to an instrument from family/friends, please bring it to school for Mrs. Christensen to measure and evaluate. If the instrument is the incorrect size or needs repair to be playable, it will not be adequate for class.

The two rental paths are outlined below:

*Please contact me if it is not financially possible for your family to rent an instrument.
Limited scholarships are available for those with fee waivers.

Jordan School District Rentals

Our school has a limited inventory of district instruments available for rent. These instruments are entry-level but are kept and maintained for the best quality. Mrs. Christensen will measure your student in class, set aside an instrument for him/her and will send home a rental contract for you to sign. You can pay your rental fee ($80 for the school year; $40 for the summer) via the Jordan School District Tuition portal. Any repairs needed as a result of neglect or mistreatment are the student's financial responsibility.

Music Store Rentals

Our local music stores offer competitive and affordable rent-to-own programs for $15-$35 per month (violins/violas have a lower monthly price than cellos/basses). The music store will measure your student for the correct size and provide an entry-level instrument for you to rent. Your monthly rental fees go toward the ultimate purchase price. And as your student grows, he/she can trade in their instrument for a larger size while still maintaining the same contract. We strongly recommend that you opt for their protection plans - this is a modest monthly fee and covers damage and theft. Click on the music store logo to be taken directly to their website.

Ready to purchase?

If your student has shown commitment and dedication in continuing with their instrument, and you wish to purchase an instrument, your teachers have great recommendations for reputable string shops in our area!
