Concurrent Enrollment allows you to earn college credit while you complete required high school credit. One CE class can give you credit toward high school graduation as well as university general education. You may even be able to take enough concurrent credit to satisfy general education requirements at any public college or university in Utah, all before you finish high school, by fulfilling the courses required for a Certificate of Completion. Talk to your high school counselor for more information about the specific courses your school offers toward a Certificate of Completion.
Because CE courses count for credit in two ways, the grade you earn in your high school course will automatically be reflected on your college transcript. That can be somewhat intimidating, but rest assured that our Concurrent Enrollment instructors are wonderful, and they have been well-trained to help you understand the material and succeed in the course.
All of courses listed on the Courses Offered page are taught at Copper Hills High School during the regular school day. The courses are taught by CHHS faculty who have met the requirements to be adjunct instructors through the various college/universities.
Students also have the opportunity to take classes on campus, if they choose. These courses can be through either the Concurrent on Campus program or Early Enrollment program.
The credit limits are set by USHE, Utah State Higher Education and is the same for all concurrent enrollment students.
30 credits per school year (Fall-Spring) This includes credits from all colleges as well as concurrent enrollment credit, early enrollment credit, online etc. Students will be required to drop classes if they exceed the limit.
15 credits per semester This is considered "full-time" and we encourage students not to exceed this amount. If a student wishes to take more than 15 credits per semester they need to meet with their SLCC college advisor. Even after meeting with their SLCC advisor, students may not take more than 18 credits per semester.
Note: Classes taken during the summer, as Early Enrollment, are not counted in the 30 credits per school year limit.
There four different costs associated with Concurrent Enrollment. They are:
Application Fee to the College/University. This only needs to be paid one time, to each college/university you will be taking Concurrent Enrollment classes through. The cost varies between $30-$50, depending on the college/university.
Tuition. Students taking concurrent enrollment courses pay $5 per credit hour, and courses are approximately 3-4 credits each or $15-$20. Tuition is paid directly to the college/university. This is paid EACH semester you are taking a concurrent enrollment class.
Textbook/Software Access. While we have tried hard to have classroom sets of all required textbooks, some courses require students to purchase their own book and/or online software access codes. If your class requires this, you will pay the fees to the college/university bookstore or online software publisher. Your instructor should list the specific information in their disclosure.
Class Fees. These vary by class and are paid to the high school. Class fees pay for various supplies required for successful completion of the course.
