ARTS IN THE COMMUNITY
"From Bluffdale to Broadway was a great success! On November 5-6, and 8, local performers (including several of Bluffdale Elementary students) entertained audiences with musical numbers from some of the great shows that have been produced in Bluffdale over the course of the past 26 years. It's great to have such great opportunities for our students to both experience the arts in our community and to develop their performance skills through the community.
OCTOBER 2021
ART CLASSES
Art Specialist Cassie Parker had a great time in art class working with students, teaching them about Faith Ringgold. It was fun for students to create quilt work art that she is known for. Ms. Cassie is looking forward to some fun Halloween art this month.
MUSIC CLASSES
This month in music class we started the school year with extreme movement fun! Kindergarten moved to “Flight of the Bumblebee,” taking turns being the flower or the bee. First and second graders practiced stop and go, fast and slow by galloping on stick horses to “Trish Trash Polka.” Third and fourth graders walked the plank to the beat of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and then choreographed action scenes with a partner. 5th and 6th graders had a ball studying musical form, air drumming to the surfing song “Wipe Out.” Links to all of these fun songs can be found on Mrs. Brown's website:

BAND, ORCHESTRA, AND GUITAR CLASSES
Mrs. Tracey Condie, our PTA president elect, began before-school lessons for students in band, orchestra, and guitar! The response to the offering of these classes has been amazing! Students are working hard and learning quickly. It's great to have them develop skils in playing strings, woodwinds, and brass.
TEACHER FEATURE
In a unit learning what illustrators do, Mrs. Walters taught her 3rd graders how to draw a still life. The lesson easily tied to the vocabulary students were learning or had learned, words such as illustrate, style, tools, and sketch. When finished, students took the opportunity to do a "gallery walk" and look at all the art their classmates had created. Teacher and students were equally impressed. It was a fun experience for all!
BOMBA MARILÉ
For National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), Bluffdale welcomed the Puerto Rican group Bomba Marilé to share its music and culture with all students in grades 1-6. The kids clapped to the beat and rhythm of the music and teachers were invited to the front to learn some traditional dances, which they later danced with some of the students. It was a lot of fun!
