Welcome!
For students who will be in Mrs. Jones's 9th Grade English, 9th Grade Honors English, or 7th & 8th Grade Creative Writing courses, welcome and I am so excited to have you in my class this year! For grown-ups/guardians of students attending my classes this year, I look forward to communicating with you throughout the school year and getting to know your kiddos. Thank you for trusting me with them and I promise to love/look after them this year as well as teach them new skills to help them be successful in their school years to come and in their future adult lives!
In the 9th Grade English course, we will be reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and Romiette and Julio by Sharon M. Draper. It is my hope that I can help teach our students about the importance of these novels, and their themes, and that reading is an essential skill as well as a delightful pastime. In addition, we will be working very specifically on increasing student's writing stamina, vocabulary, and grammar/spelling skills.
In the 9th Grade Honors English course, we will be refining our writing skills by practicing several different types of writing such as Narrative Writing, Literary Analysis, Argumentative Writing, and more. I look forward to having deep discussions with these classes regarding the books and topics we are learning about. We will be reading To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee as well as Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and some essays regarding various topics such as whether or not a college education is essential for success.
In the 7th & 8th Grade Creative Writing course, we will be focusing on allowing the students to develop a love for writing by providing them with a fun, creative outlet to express themselves. This class is not meant to be a second English class, but rather a fun elective course where I can assist them with areas they might be lacking in their writing skills while also using their own unique experiences and interests to create their own original short stories and poems throughout the year!
I cannot wait to get started and I know this school year will be an unforgettably wonderful one!
