February 2025

Dear Parent / Carer

I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable half-term break.

As we begin another busy half-term, there are many key activities taking place. A particular focus is on our Year 11 and Year 13 students as they continue preparing for their fast-approaching GCSE and post-16 examinations. There are a wide range of intervention sessions available for Year 11 at lunchtime and after school, while Year 13 students receive bespoke support within their lessons. I strongly encourage all Year 11 students to attend as many revision sessions as possible, as these will reinforce their learning in the classroom and at home. At this stage, independent study plays a crucial role in their success.

Attendance and punctuality remain vital in ensuring students achieve their full potential. Last year, 19 out of the top 20 highest-attaining GCSE students at The John Warner School had excellent attendance (above 97%). Regular attendance has a clear link to academic achievement, so I urge all students to be in school every day and on time to maximise their learning.

Different year groups are also approaching key milestones in their education:

While this is an exciting time, we understand that it can also bring some anxiety. Members of staff are fully supporting students through these processes to ensure they feel confident and well-guided.

Finally, a  reminder about some of our uniform expectations:

I look forward to working together to support our students throughout the next half-term.

Warmest regards

Chris Price

Headteacher, The John Warner School
