Smithfield-Selma High School IBMYP Schedules

Schedule

A/B Day Classes

One of the goals of the Middle Years Program is to provide students with an opportunity to study a broad and balanced curriculum that includes 8 named subject groups (shown in the infographic above).  In grades 9 and 10, schools have the flexibility to schedule students in 6 of the 8 subject groups, which we have opted to do at SSS.

Of note, the MYP is designed to help students develop disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding through "concurrently taught" courses in each subject group.  That means that subjects are meant to be studied at the same time.

In order to accomodate this concurrent learning requirement, some of our courses will be offered on an A day / B day schedule.  These courses rotate every other day for the entire year, and provide approximately the same number of total days of instruction as their semester based counterparts (more days than fall and fewer than spring).  In the examples to the left, the student's 1st Block classes are A/B day classes.

All of our MYP Language Acquisition Courses (Spanish and French) are taught on the A/B Day schedule, and we have a number of sections from other subject groups that will be taught A/B day as well.
