Innovation Academy Goes to Rome
Who is Innovation Academy?
The Innovation Academy at South Campus is the Laboratory School of Johnson County Public Schools. We are a community of pioneering teacher-leaders, students, and families who approach learning in innovative and personalized ways. We will host visits for education professionals who are interested in innovating teaching and learning in their own classrooms or schools.
The Pioneer Journey To Rome
The Pioneers at Innovation Academy at South Campus were selected to serve as 1 out of 15 schools to represent the United States of America in Rome, Italy as a result of the work that they are doing to change the world.
They will be provided the opportunity to learn and lead alongside students from over 100 countries around the world!

How are Pioneers Changing the World?
As a result of the damage to Eastern NC as a result of Hurricane Florence, the staff at Innovation Academy proposed the following question to our students, "What is our responsibility as Pioneers to address suffering in our community?". Through the use of a learning platform called Design For Change, students focused on service based learningand the "I Can" Mindset. Students defined, addressed and reduced suffering in our community, region and state through research, collection and school-wide outreach.
Utilizing the process provided by Design for Change USA afforded us the structure to take on a very large vision and bring it to life. As a result of the work of our Pioneers, we submitted a proposal for their participation in the I CAN Global Summit in Rome, Italy in November. Out of 300 submissions nationwide, our school was one of the 15 selected! A total of 8 students and 4 staff will be selected to attend the summit and present our work.
How do we plan to get there?
To negate the determination of participation on access to financial resources, we need to raise $27,000 to cover trip expenses for all student and teacher participants.
