Portfolio

EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT!

A portfolio is one of the most useful tools for a student to have. This portfolio will act as a "folder" that displays all of their best work throughout their educational journey. It will be an amazing tool for college admission or entering the work force.

It will also act as a editable online home for their best work during their high school career. If used correctly, a student can store all of their assignments on this portfolio. Also, students will be able to demonstrate mastery by using their portfolio to hold their best work AND they can use it for all different classes - not just English. Below you will find instructions on how to create this amazing tool!

Instructions

Okay...this embarrassingly easy but it is really important that you follow the steps correctly.

STEP 1: Using your school email, log into Google and go to the "new" Google sites. It is in the "waffle" in the right hand corner. Please bookmark Google Sites for easy access.

STEP 2: Click the red "+" sign in the lower left-hand corner to begin your portfolio.

STEP 3: The name of your site should be your "Last Name_Portfolio". Ex: "Camarota_Portfolio".

STEP 4: The first page of your site should be introductory. You can customize headers, colors, and text but the basic layout needs to be formatted. The first page should hold your resume (which you will be building ALL through high school), a profile picture of yourself, your cover letter, and your personal information (email, passions, strengths, and areas of focus).

STEP 5: Create a new page titled "Fall 2018". Once that page is made, you will made 5 different subpages under "Fall 2018". This is required for our class but a good tool to use for other classes as well. Each page can display a different semester of work. Once this is made, you can add a 'subpage' for each class this semester.

STEP 6: Add a 'subpage' under the "Fall 2018" section that's titled Reading Blog. This is where you will keep track of when, how much, and what you read. This will replace a boring reading log. YOU are responsible for updating this information and being honest/accurate. Oftentimes, the information you put on here will encourage our class discussions.

Here is a link to an example site I created to help you understand the layout. We will work on this together so don't worry - this is such a good tool to have!
