Meet Mrs. Meston

AKA Nurse Nicki

By Mrs. McAlister

This school year Summit has a new nurse in the office, Mrs. Meston.  You might have to go see her at some point this year because you are not feeling well or you have an injury.  So it might be nice to know who it is you’ll be seeing to get help!

Mrs. Meston always knew she wanted to help people, but didn’t realize that nursing was for her until her dad was sick and in the hospital a lot.  Then she decided to pursue nursing and because she also liked working with kids, Mrs. Meston specialized in pediatric nursing in school.  Before she came to Summit, she worked as a nurse for over 15 years helping children with special needs and their families.

So far Mrs. Meston is enjoying working at Summit.  Her favorite part of the job is connecting with students and staff.  She also mentioned how much she laughs during the day (middle schoolers are very funny!) which she enjoys.  Mrs. Meston’s biggest challenge is being responsible for the health and well-being of 1200 people.  That’s a lot of responsibility!

In her free time, Mrs. Meston is busy with her own 4 children.  She coaches them in soccer and basketball.  Mrs. Meston also enjoys being outside and listening to True Crime podcasts.  Mrs. Meston’s favorite restaurant is Cosi Cucina.  She assures us that the food is delicious, especially their cheesecake and Ziti Cucina.  If Mrs. Meston could travel anywhere in the world, she’s not too picky - as long as it’s warm and there is a beach!

We are lucky to have such a wonderful nurse here at Summit to help all of the students and staff!

Teacher Spotlight, Ms.Stofer

By Sophia

Ms.Stofer is a teacher in Summit Middle School, she is located in expedition. She likes being a teacher but she says it’s challenging, including she needs to prepare and needs to teach and help the students during the lessons. After class, she grades and prepares to do it all again tomorrow. When she goes home, her cat is waiting for her. So, Ms.Stofer feeds and plays with him.

She likes working with many subjects as a teacher and helps students learn and grow. Ms.Stofer wants to learn new things and teach them to students, she also thinks that being a teacher is a wonderful and one of the best decisions ever she has made in her life.

There will be negatives though, she says it can be tiring because of the various aspects of teaching. There can also be some challenges along the way, Ms.Stofer said it’s her first year teaching in this district. So, it’s challenging for her to learn new protocols and curriculum.
