Mardi Gras State of Mind
Celebrated in France on Shrove Tuesday (the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday), Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday, is a celebratory day that welcomes the pre-Lenten season. Due to the tradition of consuming all fats at home before Lent to prepare for fasting and abstinence, the French term Mardi Gras originated. As residents of New Orleans, we are lucky to have a week off of school to enjoy the celebration, gather our krewes, and let the good times roll.
