GIRLS BASKETBALL
DIVISION 1 SELECT STATE CHAMPIONS
The Lady Patriots took a 60-46 victory against Woodlawn on March 2, 2024 at Southeastern Louisiana University to earn the state title. The Lady Patriots entered the playoffs as the number 2 seed and ended the seaon with a record of 20-4. The girls won the 10th girls basketball state championship in school history. This was the eighth year in a row that the Lady Patriots played in the state final game. This is Coach Alendra Brown's second year as head coach at JCCS. “The girls are disciplined,” Brown said. “They’re listening to what we’re doing as a coaching staff. They’re at every practice. They’re executing during the games.” No matter the outcome, this team has much to be proud of.
Sophomore Chikae Desdunes recently hit a 1,500 career point milestone during the Curtis versus Southwood victory. After the game versus Lafayette, Chikae was recognized for her talent. Chikae was given a commemorative basketball as a celebration for making history in her high school career. During this game, the patriots moved forward to the semi finals.
BOYS BASKETBALL
The JCCS boys basketball team ended their season in the playoffs with a loss to Catholic High of Baton Rouge. They entered their playoffs with a 5-win win streak. The boys beat Edna Karr, the district champions, which gave the team lots of momentum. The boys season came to an end with a 52-38 loss against Catholic. The boys fought hard but ultimately came up short. This young team has a lot to look forward to in the coming years. Their hard work and dedication will not go unnoticed.
Dagan is a fourth year varsity member. During the St. Augustine game, Dagan showed the fans how hard he works. With the help of teammate, Zaveon Shepherd, Dagan made the game winner just in time for the clock to run out. Curtis beat St.Aug 50-49 with a home advantage.
