The Latin School of Chicago does not rank its students nor does it provide a cumulative GPA. At the conclusion of each school year, internal non-college GPAs are calculated for the purpose of faculty-selected honors societies and awards. In this calculation, all AP and honors courses are weighted more than college preparatory classes.
Latin is a member of the Cum Laude Society (students are eligible at the end of eleventh and twelfth grade); students may also be selected to the school’s unique Erasmus Society beginning their sophomore year, which rewards intellectual curiosity and a love of learning beyond a concern for achieving high grades.
The majority of discipline-specific awards are granted at the end of the senior year. *NOTE: Latin students are generally limited to no more than three AP/honors courses in a given school year. Students must petition for approval to exceed this limit

In May 2018 (at the end of eighth grade) I received the Robert Peck Bates Memorial Award from The Latin School of Chicago. This prestigious award is presented to the student whose academic performance has improved most significantly over the four years of Middle School. The following is the presentation of this award.
"This year’s recipient is someone I admire and respect, not only because of his charismatic charm, thoughtful inclusivity, and quick and sophisticated wit, but also because of the manner in which he has pushed himself to achieve loftier goals as he progressed through the Middle School years. This is an especially noteworthy achievement considering that the rigors and demands widen exponentially throughout the Middle School experience. This is a person of integrity and his commitments are always met with full engagement and present mind. Academics haven’t always come easy for him, and sometimes the road proved tenuous and frustrating, but the persistence and fortitude he has shown, along with his willingness to scale the heights of perceived barriers, has helped define who he is and has laid a deep and solid foundation for whom he has yet to become.
It takes great emotional strength to recognize one’s challenges and even greater perseverance to overcome them. That’s why I’m so proud to present this year’s Robert Peck Bates Memorial Award to Ryan Kramer."
