A Special Thanks to my Advisors and all those who made JISMUN Possible!
I'm Ben Calzini and it is my honor to be serving as your Secretary-General during JISMUN 2020! I have been doing MUN for four years now and I couldn't have asked for a better experience – even starting a trade war in the UNSC at my first conference. As a senior in the IB program, I have to complete a CAS Project, and what better than hosting an MUN Conference? I hope you will sign up because not only does it help make my project a success, but I am looking forward to sharing the same positive experiences I had at MUN with those who are experienced and those who are new to MUN. One way or another, I intend on making sure this conference turns out to be a great time for everyone!
My name is Emma Wong and I am currently a junior at Jakarta Intercultural School. I am very excited to be Deputy Secretary General of the very first JISMUN conference. Being a part of the secretariat is both a challenging and rewarding experience, so I am looking forward to this conference. Outside of MUN, I absolutely love debate as well as writing and performing poetry.
Hello everybody! My name is Aaron Cardoso, and I am so happy to be chairing ECOSOC this year! I have been to a multitude of MUN conferences: MUNOFS IV, MUNOFS V, UWCMUN, THIMUN, and IASAS MUN, and I look forward to chairing this years debate. This is my first time as a chair, and I look forward to it!
Hello, this is Ahn Ho. I am a Korean-Indonesian raised in Jakarta, and this is my third year at JIS—marking my third year in the JIS MUN Club. Prior to discovering MUN, I was a member of my previous school’s debate team where I developed a strong interest in communication and rhetoric. I believe MUN, though incredibly structured in its presentation, allows delegates to understand a more dynamic style of thought—seeing this in practice among my peers has always seemed to impress me. I am looking forward to charing this year's JIS MUN conference. Have fun; learn something
Greetings fellow MUN-Enthusiasts and Novices! I’m Alexandra Fong, a current senior at JIS and am your HRC chair. Much like many of you, I have a deep passion for both debating and public speaking on current global issues and unconventional topics- my most favorite being “whether a hotdog is a sandwich”(it totally is!). My four-year experience participating in MUN has not only improved my oratory and critical thinking skills but has also- most importantly- improved my understanding of the global political world and the importance of its interactions. When I’m not doing IB schoolwork during the weekends, I enjoy going to different restaurants to devour yummy delicious food! I am so excited to hear the different perspectives, ideas, thoughts, and proposals you delegates have come up with! Cheers to an exciting and enlightening MUN conference!
My name is Gabriel Rahardja, a senior in JIS, and along with Sung Jae, I have the honor of being your Chair for the Security Council committee. Despite attending numerous conferences within my 4 years of experience. This is the first time ever that I am chairing; lucky you guys! With all this aside, I do promise to provide all delegates fruitful, enjoyable constructive debate sessions. However, outside of MUN, I am just another ordinary person. I love tennis, watching French cook shows or just hanging out with my friends. I am generally an affable, approachable person so please do not at anytime hesitant to contact me for any clarifications. Wishing you all a great conference experience :)
Greetings delegates! I'm Jasmine Kurniawan, a 9th grader at NationalHigh Jakarta School (NHJS). I've been in MUN for a little over a year now, with my first MUN being SISKG MUN 2018, where I competed in UNSC. After that conference, I fell in love with all the debate and discussion that comes with MUN conferences, leading me to compete in many conferences across Jakarta and the world. I am now an active member of my school's Model UN club, where I mentor newer delegates and help guide them through MUN. Outside of MUN, I have competed in the World Scholar's Cup (WSC) for 2 years.
To date, I've competed as a delegate in 6 conferences; including the illustrious Harvard Model Congress Asia (HMCA). I have also chaired 3 conferences, UNGA for Beacon Academy MUN, ECOFIN for BSJ MUN, and Commission 9 for the Indonesian House of Representatives for NH Model Parliament. With JISMUN, I'm hoping for a change of pace with chairing ECOSOC.
I can't wait to meet all this year's ECOSOC delegates, and I hope that the committee will be full of interesting and fruitful debate!
My name is John Leiman, and I will be chairing the JISMUN 2020 DISEC conference. I attended IASAS M-LAS (League of Arab States) as a delegate in 2017, THIM-UNSC (Security Council) last year, in 2018, and I'll be chairing at IASAS UN4MUN this year, but my experiences in participating in MUN extends beyond my time representing JIS. I started as a delegate in the WTO in 7th grade at the “MCC” (Model Congress Club) in school, long before I came to JIS. I am looking forward to participating in the council, and working with my fellow chairs to facilitate debate for delegates!
Hey everyone! I'm Kaitlyn Gosakti, a senior at JIS and I am so excited to be serving as your HRC chair for the first ever JISMUN! I began my MUN journey as a barely-5-foot (not a lot has changed) and quiet (I'd like to think I've gotten more outspoken) 6th grader. Since then, MUN has served as a platform to help me grow as a speaker, learner, and member of a global community. I most often serve in the HRC, Women's Council, or GAs as I am particularly fond of children and health rights. If I'm not found stressing over my APs or university applications, I'll probably be chilling with my friends, playing tennis, or baking. I can't wait to see all the engaging and academic delegates and debates this year!!
My name is Marco Widodo, I’m a Sophomore at JIS, and, although this is only my third year of MUN, I’ve participated in 4 conferences both local and international, also attending a MUN camp at Georgetown University last summer. I often enjoy debating, mathematics, (Rubik’s) cubing, and going camping with my Boy Scout troop. I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to help plan and chair the security council for the inaugural JISMUN Conference. I’m looking forward to meeting many enthusiastic, dynamic delegates that’ll contribute to productive debate. Fun fact: Yes, my last name’s Widodo. But, I’m NOT related to the president.
Hi! I’m Natashia Septirymen, a 9th grader currently attending ACS Jakarta. Ever since my older brother convinced me to join MUNs when I was in the 7th grade, I fell in love with competing, lobbying and public speaking, and Wednesday meetings with my school’s Model Congress Club quickly became the highlight of every week for me. After 2 years of learning from my seniors, I am now a mentor in my school’s Model Congress Club — a club where all forms of public speaking is taught, with a focus on MUN and courts. Though I typically prefer competing in court committees, MUN is still as fascinating to me as it was when I first started competing at 11 years old. To date, I’ve competed in 14 conference with 5 of them being courts and 9 of them being MUNs, my favourite MUN committee being DISEC and UNHRC. Previously, I have chaired UNHRC for Beacon Academy MUN and the International Court of Justice for SISKG MUN. However, I look forward to having a change of pace in JISMUN this year where I will be chairing DISEC! I look forward to seeing all the delegates in DISEC this year and hope that DISEC will be filled with fruitful discussion!
Hi! I’m Nicole, a senior at JIS. I’ve been doing MUN for over a year now, and I’m so excited to be a part of JISMUN 2020. Before joining MUNs, I started with debate, which I’m still doing too. I look forward to chairing at this year’s conference and hearing the ideas of all the delegates.
Hello everyone! My name is Patrice Yang and I’m currently a grade 10 student at AIS Jakarta, and I am honored to be serving you as an ECOSOC chair. I’ve always been particularly interested in politics and global issues and concerns. My MUN journey started in 2017, in the Hong Kong HMCA where I participated as a delegate in the UNHRC committee. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of joining 9 other conferences, both local and international MUN, the most notable ones being HMCA and HiMun in Universitas Indonesia, where I nabbed the title of best delegate. Apart from my undying love for MUN, I currently also have an obsession with World Scholar’s Cup, something I’ve joined for the past three years. When I’m not stretching myself out thin with competitions, I suffer as an IB student. I look forward to meeting and getting to know everyone at JISMUN, don’t be afraid to say hi!
My name is Sung-Jae, who is currently a senior at JIS with 2 years of MUN experience. In JISMUN, I will be chairing the UNSC committee with Gabriel. As an IB student, I'm not that great at managing my time effectively, but when I have free time, I lie on my bed and open my laptop to binge-watch TV shows on Netflix - Brooklyn Nine-Nine being my favorite. At my house, I have a yellow Persian cat named Nana and two younger twin sisters, which is pretty rare! My favorite part about MUN is successfully answering POIs after giving a speech. What's yours?
