My name is Maritza Rojas, and I am so excited to be part of the Jourdanton Elementary family as your school counselor!
I truly believe that every child deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued while they're at school. My goal is to help students build confidence, learn healthy ways to manage their emotions, strengthen friendships, solve problems, and discover just how capable they really are. Whether your child needs someone to celebrate their successes with or help them through a difficult day, I want them to know they always have a safe place to come.
My journey into school counseling has allowed me to see education from many different perspectives. Before becoming a school counselor, I spent three years as an elementary teacher, worked as a Campus Coordinator with Communities In Schools of Permian Basin, and most recently served as a Parent Mentor with Children's Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas, where I partnered closely with families to connect them with resources and support their children's success both in school and at home. Those experiences have strengthened my belief that when schools and families work together, amazing things happen for children.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and my Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at UT Permian Basin, which have given me a strong foundation in child development, behavior, mental health, and building meaningful relationships with students and families. I love finding ways to help children recognize their strengths, build resilience, and develop the tools they'll carry with them long after they leave elementary school.
Thank you for trusting me with such an important part of your child's journey. I look forward to partnering with you throughout the school year and helping make Jourdanton Elementary a place where every child feels they belong.
My door is always open; I can't wait to meet you!
