Brandon Church always had a dream of owning his own business. Now this twenty something man may possibly be one of the youngest entrepreneurs in North Idaho’s Silver Valley. But don’t let his age fool you…he has years of experience in the towing trade.
The towing business has always been in Brandon’s blood. For the past 11 years, Brandon’s dad Jim Church built Jim’s Bobcat and Towing Service into a line of work with a good reputation. Jim wanted to keep the excavation business but sell the towing business. This is when Brandon saw his chance to own his own company.
“Seeing my dad run his own businesses while I was growing up sparked an interest in me to be a business owner,” said Brandon.
In January 2022, Brandon purchased the towing part of Jim’s Bobcat and Towing Service from his father. Jim still does the excavating. Brandon’s now owns and operates Jim’s Towing Service.
Previously Brandon had worked for his dad, starting in high school working in the office, then drove the towing truck. He eventually worked his way up to a supervisor for the business. He knows a lot about the towing business.
“Business is in my blood,” said Brandon. “I saw dad always running his own business, but I never thought I would take over the towing business.”
The opportunity presented itself last year, and Brandon decided to leave his job as a 911 dispatcher for Shoshone County and become a full-time business owner.
“Dad started losing interest in the towing part of the business, and I saw a lot of potential,” Brandon said. “Besides towing services, Jim’s Towing Service provides U-Haul rental, AAA services, and Lockout and Roadside Assistance Services.”
Brandon likes offering the AAA services here in the valley, because no other local company offers AAA. Before Jim’s Towing Service offered these services, AAA members would have to wait for someone to come from Hayden to help them, which could take up to an hour or more for service.
There are currently eight employees under Brandon’s supervision after only eight months of running the business. This includes drivers and office staff that keep the business available for services seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day.
“I like being able to employ people and give them jobs,” said Brandon. “My biggest goal is to help families and keep people employed here in the Silver Valley.”
Jim’s Towing Service has received many five-star reviews since the first of the year.
“Brandon went way above the call of duty. He was courteous and actually drove us around to our hotel, etc. after dropping our car off at the repair shop,” said reviewer Ron Jensen. “Very professional, trustworthy and kind.”
Emily Harrington also gave the business a five-star review.
“Great service,” she said. “Brandon was exceptional, professional, and very friendly. He even waited at the drop off point to make sure my husband and I didn’t need a ride to a car rental.”
Brandon has always been community-focused and wanting to help people in his community. During his freshman year at Kellogg High School, Brandon was presented The President’s Volunteer Service Award, an award created to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service. He was also recognized in 2017 by the Silver Valley Chamber of Commerce by receiving the Pay It Forward Award, another recognition of his commitment to his community.
Since the beginning of the year, Jim’s Towing Service has helped provide funds to schools throughout the Silver Valley, including helping fund the purchase of fall and spring jerseys for the Mullan School District, and donating funds to help with the construction of the new concession stand at Teeter’s Field in Kellogg.
In looking to the future, Brandon said he is always looking to expand and have more employees. He would eventually like to have a second location so he can enlarge the service area of the business. He would also like to increase the number of service vehicles he can send out on jobs.
“Jim’s Towing Service is a very customer-oriented business,” said Brandon. “We have first responders who work for us on their days off. Each staff member is very outgoing and is always willing to help our customers.”
