Original Play for the 2025-26 UIL OAP Competition
After the death of her young daughter, Eleanor Dove withdraws into the shifting shadows of her Victorian home, where grief blurs the line between illusion and reality. Once a magician’s daughter and assistant, she now finds herself slipping from the life around her—observed by neighbors, judged by her mother-in-law, and quietly threatened with the “rest cures” society prescribes for grieving women.
While her husband wrestles with guilt and fear, her brother-in-law tries to steady what remains of the household, and the family’s devoted nanny struggles to protect Eleanor’s surviving child, the pressure mounts: will Eleanor disappear completely, or find her way back?
Blending memory, stage magic, and intimate family conflict, The Vanishing Woman explores how easily a woman can be erased—and how powerful it is to choose to return.
Competition: December 10th @ Clyde
Public Performance: December 14th
Black Dust is a powerful original play that follows a group of young coal miners and their families as they struggle to survive and find their voices in a dangerous Appalachian mining town. Through the eyes of sisters Mae and Ellie, the story explores friendship, loss, and the spark of resistance in the face of injustice. As tragedy strikes and tensions rise, the children must decide whether to remain silent—or fight for a future free from the dust that threatens to bury them all.
Themes: courage, injustice, community, and hope.

DramaFest is an annual theatre showcase that highlights the creativity and versatility of our student performers. Rather than a single scripted production, DramaFest is a collection of student-selected performances featuring acting, singing, dancing, staged combat, original scenes, monologues, and more.
Students choose material that reflects their interests and strengths, allowing them to explore a wide range of theatrical styles and skills. The showcase also features performances by our International Thespian Society (ITS) competitors and national qualifiers, offering audiences the opportunity to see award-winning work alongside original and experimental pieces.
DramaFest is designed as a celebration of student voice and artistic growth—an evening that showcases the breadth of our theatre program and the many ways students engage with performance.
