Instruction

Best practices regarding online delivery contains many components, for example:

    • Practice/Rehearsal - how much time do you spend rehearsing your delivery, what failsafes do you have in place for when things don't go as planned?

    • How often do you plan to get up and move around? Getting some physical activity is good for the body and mind. How will you make it a habit in your classroom?

    • A great way to create accountability with students is to have them showcase their work. Learning journals, portfolios and online galleries of work provides students with the understanding that their work is important.

    • Empowerment – by putting the ball in the the hands of the student we can provide them with an opportunity to take ownership of their learning.

    • Break learning into smaller chunks. Unlike f2f classes, many small chunks of learning can be far more successful in an online environment.

    • Take regular breaks.

    • Limit distractions when possible (turn off social media notifications, for example).

    • Make time to socialize, even if it’s virtually.

    • Make the learning fun, if you can provide gamified learning components (badges, points, stars)

    • Give students opportunities for revision

    • Ensure that all content is designed for accessibility
