The first mass murder of the Jews of Korets took place in Shytnia. In July 1941, Nazis shot 120 Jewish members of the intelligensia from Korets. They were buried in the ravine of Shytnia (near Korets, at the entrance to the city from the Novograd-Volynsk). A Matzevah was erected in 1998 by the Korets survivors from Israel. The inscription reads:
