Dubova is a small village in central Ukraine, on the Yatran River in the Uman district in southwestern Cherkasy province (oblast). By road it’s about 15.5 mi. (25 km) southeast of the city of Uman. Villages near Dubova are of similar size; larger communities are found closer to Uman. Uman itself is about 131 mi. (211 km) south of Kyiv.

The name of the village in Russian and Ukrainian comes from their words meaning oak. The current Ukrainian name is on the map. There are several places with similar names in other provinces of Ukraine and in other countries.

Dubova, Cherkasy oblast

On the first map, Cherkasy oblast (province) is the area in the lighter green, in the center of Ukraine. The country itself has borders with seven countries, the unlabeled one to the north and east being Russia.

The province, which is largely agrarian, covers almost 8,100 sq. mi. (20,900 sq. km). In 2001, 93% of its populace identified as Ukrainian. Total population was about 1.161 million in 2022, after a continual slight decline beginning around 1980.
