I have spent most of my career figuring out how things work and how they can work better.
Professionally, that began with software engineering and evolved into architecture, consulting, software-development leadership, executive technology responsibility, and enterprise architecture.
I have led engineering organizations and managers, owned technology budgets, worked directly with executives and customers, built technology roadmaps, modernized legacy platforms, evaluated investments, and remained close enough to technology to understand the practical implications of the decisions being made.
My approach combines systems thinking with servant leadership.
I believe leaders should establish clear outcomes and accountability while creating an environment where capable people can make decisions and solve problems.
Technology leaders also have an important translation responsibility.
Executives should not need to understand every implementation detail to make a good technology decision, and engineers should understand enough about the business objective to make good technical decisions.
A large part of technology leadership is building that bridge.

Additional professional development has included Microsoft Azure, AI, IT service management, Six Sigma, financial-services registration, and leadership training.
Technology is also something I enjoy outside work.
I experiment with Python, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, sensors, automation, AI, and other technologies simply because I enjoy learning how systems work.
I have been involved in 3D printing since around 2019 and use both filament and resin printers.
I enjoy taking a physical problem through the entire process:
Projects have included custom boat hardware, emblems, functional adapters, jewelry, prototypes, and a mixed filament/resin ED-209 replica from RoboCop.
Bass fishing and boating are major interests.
I have participated in competitive bass fishing and have served in leadership and support roles with The Colony Bass Club and Lavon Yacht Club.
Boating also feeds the same tendency I have with technology: understand the system, troubleshoot the problem, and improve it.
I have brewed beer and wine since the mid-2000s using extract, partial-mash, and all-grain methods.
Homebrewing is another exercise in process, experimentation, measurement, controlled changes, and learning from results.
Apparently I have difficulty finding hobbies that don't eventually turn into engineering projects.
My community involvement has included serving as a team captain for Hearts & Hammers home-repair projects, participating in food-bank initiatives through CoreGiving, and supporting fishing and boating organizations through volunteer and leadership roles.
