All Westport teachers use a Standards-Based Grading system. In this system, 80% of a student’s grade comes from Mastery scores (assessments or projects where they show mastery of a standard) and 20% comes from Progression scores (assignments where they show progress towards a standard). Students will have opportunities to retake Mastery assignments- the grade will then be replaced in the grade book.
Missing/Late Work
Pay close attention to due dates! With block scheduling, due dates may vary from class to class.
Progression assignments that are missing will receive a grade of 50% or “M” in the gradebook.
Mastery assignments that are turned in late can be scored no higher than proficient.
Missing assignments will be accepted until the end of each unit. This will vary per class but will always be clearly communicated with students and families.
Late work submitted in the current unit will not be scored higher than Proficient (3 or 85%)
