Hello to our wonderful 6th graders and our fabulous parents. I am Mrs. Mays your 6th grade Assistant Principal. Welcome to Westport Middle. We have a wonderful school community and are so happy to be apart of your middle school journey.

Since my role is all about building relationships and propelling academic excellence. I would like to share a little about myself. I come to you with 22 years of experience. I am a graduate from New York University and have 20 years in the New York City Department of Education. 9 years as a classroom teacher, 3 years as a reading specialist, 3 years as a Dean and 7 years as an Assistant Principal. My experiences have helped me see the social, academic and behavioral transitions from pre-K to Middle school. I am also a wife and a mother of two beautiful children, Jacob and Ava. You will most likely see them in our halls after hours at evening school events.

My goal as your Assistant Principal is to have a positive impact on the lives of every student I am responsible for. I have high expectations of my students and expect them to come to school ready to learn. I will always make their safety and success my utmost priority. I want to inspire students to invest in their own education in order to be college and career ready.

I hope you had a wonderful summer. I look forward to the year ahead and can’t wait to meet each and everyone of you and your families. I will leave you with a favorite quote “Function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character- that is the goal of true education” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Remember your character proceeds you and it is important to be kind.
