St. Joseph Children's Home

St. Joseph Children’s Home is a licensed residential program for children ages 5 to 14. There are three on-campus classrooms, highly supervised treatment foster care, and a volunteer program, Family Visitors, in which residents are involved in approved family settings on weekends and holidays. The program offers a structured environment in which abused or neglected youth who are currently in the state's custody receive residential treatment and an on-campus education.

• Population Served: Boys and girls, ages 6 to 14

• Specific Characteristics: Students who are unable to function in a comprehensive classroom, may exhibit out-of-control behaviors, or those who benefit from instruction in a small setting

• Maximum Enrollment: 40

• Average Length of Stay: 2 years

• The St. Joseph Children's Home follows the JCPS calendar and includes a summer program.

School Program

The St. Joseph Children’s Home school program functions as a transitional setting for students who are unable to attend regular JCPS schools. Educational goals for this program are as follows:

• To assist students with educational, developmental, and emotional problems

• To provide an opportunity to maintain, develop, and continue academic programs

• To provide a nurturing environment in which students can work independently and in small groups

• To develop appropriate school behaviors

• To prepare to transition into a comprehensive school setting

Referral Process

Approximately 98 percent of the residents are referred for placement by the Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children. Private referrals and placements from Indiana are accommodated as openings allow.
