Jefferson Regional Juvenile Detention Center

Jefferson Regional Detention Center (JRJDC) is a specialized educational program in connection with the Department of Juvenile Justice. The primary goals of the program being the prevention of further delinquent behavior, the prevention of institutionalization, and a successful instructional transition to the community school. Youths benefit from an academic curriculum that complies with current high school graduation requirements. Students receive instruction accommodating individual learning styles and remediation of skills.

  • Population Served: Males and females, ages 14 to 18 (grades 9 through 12)

  • Specific Characteristics: Students placed through the Department of Juvenile Justice

  • Maximum Enrollment: 16

  • Average Length of Stay: 2 weeks

  • JRJDC follows the JCPS school calendar and includes a summer program.

  • A General Educational Development (GED) Certificate Program is available.

JRJDC strives to provide each child with the following:

  • Improved academic functioning through individually prescribed instruction

  • A reduced pupil-teacher ratio to foster personalized attention

  • Development of social skills through counseling and monitored group experience
