Community Celebrations

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) will celebrate its graduating seniors with several events and recognition programs:

  • VIRTUAL GRADUATION CEREMONIES – JCPS is live streaming 26 graduation ceremonies at youtube.com/jcpsweb featuring speeches and a reading of all seniors’ names the last week of May. Graduation Schedule. A few schools with small graduating classes will share a ceremony.

  • TARC BUS ADS – Beginning May 18th, the sides of 21 TARC busses will have a banner with the name of a JCPS high school and the names of seniors in that high schools’ graduating class.

  • COURIER JOURNAL ADS – The Sunday, May 31 edition of Louisville’s Courier Journal newspaper will include full page advertisements with the names of seniors from high schools across the district.

  • CLASS OF 2020 VIDEOS – JCPS is producing videos featuring each high school’s graduating seniors. WAVE, WDRB, WHAS and WLKY plan to air the videos in their newscasts throughout the month of May. The videos are also being released on JCPS’ social media sites.

  • RADIO – WHAS Radio will be airing the graduation speeches of several JCPS seniors May 18-22 at 11:45 a.m. during the Tony and Dwight Show. WAMZ plans to run 30-second “moments” from seniors recounting their senior years and thanking their classmates and teachers.

  • CHURCHILL DOWNS – The Twin Spires will be lit up with area high schools’ colors the nights of May 16-22 in honor of local seniors.

  • KENTUCKY EXPO CENTER SIGNAGE – Starting the week of May 18, Kentucky Exposition Center will post congratulatory messages for JCPS seniors on its gate signage, as well as on its large digital billboard that is visible from I-65.

  • COLLEGE AND CAREER SIGNING CELEBRATION – Throughout the month of May, Evolve502 is celebrating graduating seniors who share photos of their post-graduation plans using the hashtags #CollegeSigningDay, #Evolve502, and #JCPSClassof2020. Seniors who post photos in their college gear or with a sign showing the company that has hired them accompanied by these hashtags are entered to win a Visa gift card!

  • STADIUM LIGHT UPS – The lights at every JCPS high school football stadium were lit on Friday, May 8 from 8-9 p.m. to highlight the Class of 2020.

Several JCPS high schools are planning recognitions on their own including placing signs in the yards of graduating seniors.
