Dress Code

Kammerer Middle School Dress Code Policy 2023-2024

Policy Statement:

The Kammerer School Attire Policy (established by the KMS School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council) shall be the standard dress for all students during regular school hours, including all field trips. The Principal or his/her designee has final authority on school attire expectations/compliance. We encourage wearing all KMS Logo Wear during the school year to promote school pride. 

TOPS:

• Tops must be free of hoods - hoodies, zip-up jackets with hoods, pullovers with hoods, etc. are to be put in lockers throughout the day.

• Students' tops/shirts must have sleeves that cover the shoulders 

• Students' tops/shirts should cover the abdominal and chest area.  

• All tops/shirts should not be see-through (i.e. no see through material).

• All clothing must cover all undergarments.

• All other shirts must be non-offensive as outlined in the General section below.

PANTS/SHORTS/SKIRTS (KMS LOGOWEAR ENCOURAGED):

• Pants, shorts, and skirts are to fit at the waist (no sagging). Belts are encouraged.

• Shorts and skirts should be mid-thigh length or longer.

• Pants, shorts, and skirts should be free of tears and holes unless there is clothing (other than an undergarment) beneath to cover the skin. 

• Sweatpants are permitted.

• Yoga style pants are permitted but should not be see-through.

SHOES:

• Tennis shoes or sturdy, form-fitting shoes are recommended for the school day. Sneakers are encouraged to be worn every day.

• Shoes must have a back for the heel and cover the toe.

• Shoes must be free of wheels or lights.

• High heels, flip-flops, slides, or backless shoes are not permitted. 

GENERAL (KMS LOGOWEAR ENCOURAGED)

• Tops and bottoms must overlap at all times, including when arms are raised.  Sagging or exposing undergarments is not permitted.

• Head coverings are only permitted for religious observances.

• Gang or cult-related styles are not permitted.

• Coats and jackets (outerwear) may not be worn indoors during the school day and will be stored in lockers during school hours.

• Oversized belt buckles are not permitted (i.e. one that overrides the size of the belt loops).

• Grills, decorative teeth accessories, or mouth gear are not permitted unless prescribed by a dentist and a note is on file.

• Spray bottles/aerosols of cologne or perfume are not permitted.

• All items of clothing are to be used for their original intent. 

• No clothing or accessories with offensive, degrading, provocative, or 

suggestive language, statements, symbols, or pictures; no references to alcohol, drugs, violence, tobacco, or weapons.

• Cell phones and all other electronics (headphones, earbuds, smart watches, etc.) are to be kept in the locker during the school day unless directed by the teacher for a special project/assignment.  Utilization of Chromebooks is allowed during instructional time for activities assigned by the classroom teacher. Students are not permitted to take videos of other students during the instructional school day. This includes riding to and from school, school bus stops, etc., as it is ILLEGAL to do so without a parent/guardian consent form filled out via JCPS photo/video release policy.
