See below for tardy expectations and consequences.
It is always beneficial if parents or guardians can notify team teachers of an absence before it occurs.
Students may make a request for work from teachers in advance of the absence but must allow at least 24 hours for the teacher to provide the student with the work.
Students who must leave school before the end of the day should bring a written request from home that day and present it to the Attendance Clerk in the Office before school. The request should include the reason, time to be excused, phone number where parents can be reached and signature of the parent or guardian. Students whose early dismissals have been verified will show on the daily absentee report. Parents are expected to come to the office and sign their child out. No students will be sided out after 1:50 pm.
If a student becomes seriously ill during class, a hall pass should be issued directing the student to the Main Office. If needed, call the office for an escort. All phone calls regarding student illness (by student or other staff) must be made from the Main Office. Teachers are not to give medication, not even aspirin or a cough drop.
Homework Request
After returning from an absence student must request makeup work from each teacher.
Excessive Absences
A student is chronically absent if he or she has missed 10% (17.5 days) of the school year whether the absence is unexcused or excused.
Any student enrolled in a public school who has attained the age of eighteen (18) years, but has not reached his or her twenty-first birthday, who has been absent from school without valid excuse for three (3) or more days, or tardy without valid excuse on three (3) or more days, is a truant.
Any student who has been reported as a truant two (2) or more times is a habitual truant.
Teachers will record student attendance at the beginning of every class period.
Students receive 5 minutes breaks for lockers (scheduled), bathrooms(scheduled), and 3 minutes to transition to classes between periods, the vast majority of students should be able to make it to class in this time frame and not exceed the allotted amount of time. Students exceeding the 3 limits are not adhering to the Centurion respectful, responsible, and safe expectations and will be considered tardy. Students exceeding the time restraints for transitions by 5 minuets or more are considered cutting class and will be written up as specified in the JCPS (SSBIH) and receive the consequences outlined below.
Students who arrive after 7:30 should report to the Main Office to sign in and get a tardy slip before going to class. JCPS regulations mandates that a student tardy shall be recorded for a student who is absent less than 35 percent of the regularly scheduled school day.
In the event that a total of three unexcused tardies have been accumulated, a letter may be sent to the parent/guardian and, if the problem persists, in increments of three thereafter.
