The KPA confirms that individuals have the reading, writing, and mathematics skills needed to assist students and support classroom instruction. For those without the required college coursework or degree, passing the assessment provides another pathway to meet Kentucky’s employment qualification requirements.
Participants receive instruction and practice in reading, writing, and mathematics before taking the Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment. The KPA includes 60 multiple-choice questions, and a score of at least 48 correct answers is required to pass. After passing, participants can use their results to meet one of Kentucky’s qualification pathways for paraeducator employment.
After passing the KPA, you can begin applying for paraeducator positions with JCPS or other Kentucky school districts. Candidates must also complete the employer’s application, background check, and any additional hiring requirements.
