Hello & welcome to the Hite/Middletown Family Resource Center!

My name is Melissa Escobar and I am so excited to be your new Family Resource Center Coordinator. I have been in education for over 20 years. I am married to Roberto and I have two grown daughters (Lea and Olivia). I also have two dogs (Baxter and Birch) and a rescue cat (Clark). I have a passion for helping people. I look forward to serving the students and families of both Middletown and Hite Elementary schools. Please contact me anytime you have a need, I am here to help in any way that I can. In my growing up years, I have experienced some tough times and definitely some bumps in the road. I am always available with a listening ear without judgement if ever needed. I will be sending home a newsletter monthly to keep you informed of the FRC happenings and community resources that are available. I look forward to meeting you!

HOW TO REACH ME:

My office door is always open, and although I split my time between two schools, please feel free to reach out whenever necessary. The Center’s hours are 8:30 am-4:30 pm. I look forward to working with your student and families!

What is my favorite thing about being a coordinator?

I have a passion for helping people. In my job, I get to partner with families to help them remove any barriers to learning for their child. Life can be hard and there are many situations that can keep a child from being their very best and having the best elementary years experience. It is my mission, to make these years, the best time possible. I also love to support student development through bringing in programs that help support their development academically and also social and emotional. I know it is not always easy asking for help so I stress that the goal and priority will always be the children and the whole reason for this center and my being here is them. There will never be rejection or judgment, and they will never be made to feel they are a burden or nuisance. We are here to help and support!

What do you wish people knew about FRYSC?

The FRYSC program and coordinators are very well known for helping with a clean change of clothes or needed school supplies at the beginning of the year, but we can and do offer so much more.

I wish people would expect and seek services and help from our centers the same way everyone expects teachers to teach. Services such as securing food for our families who may be going through an unexpected dilemma or connecting families to after-school childcare programs or opportunities of spending time together as a family during family night events.

I truly believe what Cesar Chavez, an American labor leader, community organizer, and Latino American civil rights activist said to be true, “We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.”
