Past Scoops

Bloom Village Scoop - May 19, 2024

Bulldog Village,

This is it! The last week of school - and it's only 4 days (no school on Tuesday - GO VOTE!).

Please check out the opportunities to volunteer in the Volunteer Opportunities section below. Also, please consider coming in to read aloud one of many AAPI children's books to your child(ren)'s classroom during one of the few remaining days of school.

Check out all the events below and we'll see you around the campus, at Tyler Park, and in the community this summer.

And remember to spread joy and kindness - because positivity is what we all need now.

“Success isn’t about the end result, it’s about what you learn along the way.” — Vera Wang, fashion designer

IMPORTANT DATES THIS LAST WEEK:

DRESS-UP DAYS: WEAR PJs DAY- Tomorrow, Monday, May 20th we invite everyone to wear their favorite pajamas to school. This is our last fun dress-up day - so go all out and have a lot of fun! See you in the morning! 💤

AAPI HERITAGE MONTH: Did you know that May is AAPI Heritage Month? This month presents our Bloom Village with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and honor the rich heritage, culture, and contributions of Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders (AAPI) and Native Hawaiians in our community and beyond. May is recognized as AAPI Heritage Month, a time for us to reflect on the diverse tapestry of backgrounds and experiences that make our school and nation so vibrant.

At Bloom Elementary, we believe in fostering an inclusive environment where all members of our community feel valued and respected. In observance of AAPI Heritage Month, I would like to encourage each of you to take part in meaningful activities and initiatives that celebrate AAPI culture and raise awareness of issues facing the AAPI community. Please reach out to your child(ren)'s teacher to volunteer to visit the class. Here's one easy way to do that:

Read and Share AAPI Stories: Explore literature written by AAPI authors or featuring AAPI protagonists. Encourage your children to read books that highlight the experiences and perspectives of AAPI individuals. Share your favorite titles with your child's teacher - or even volunteer to come into a classroom and read it aloud!

💰 RESOLVE YOUR INVOICES TODAY: As we reach the final stretch of the school year, please check your My School Bucks account to see if your students might have any unpaid invoices from field trips. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Klassen at melissa.klassen@jefferson.kyschools.us

📖 BOOK RETURN HOUSE CHALLENGE: While we are still trying to get the last 31 books back to the library, our house challenge is over and we have our winner! No house brought back 100% but they all got pretty close!

In the winner's circle is the House of....CREATIVITY! They only had 3 books not returned from their whole house. These classes will receive a special STEAM day in library when they come! In second place is EMPATHY – only 1 behind Creativity with 4 books.

Honestly all the houses did a great job of working to get their books back...and we still have over a week to go. Only 6 more books to hit 25 total books out, Bloom's Library's goal. Please search and re-search your house, cars, etc. for those missing books. We know that you can do it! And if it's lost like a missing sock of a pair coming out of the laundry - reach out to Ms. Craven to pay for the lost book - that counts too!

Bloom Village Scoop - May 13, 2024

Bulldog Village,

Wow! This is our last full week of school for the 23-24 school year. 5 days of instruction and learning, with some fun sprinkled in.

Please check out the opportunities to volunteer in the Volunteer Opportunities section below. Also, please consider coming in to read aloud one of many AAPI children's books to your child(ren)'s classroom during one of the remaining 9 days of school. “The American dream belongs to all of us.”Kamala Harris

Lastly, many of you know my mom is no longer with us - but honestly she's always with me. I'm one lucky principal in many areas of life, but most of all I won the lottery with my mom. I also won the lottery with all the women in my life who serve in the role of mother. For all the mothers and the mothers-at-heart, thank you for your care and kindness. And if you’ve lost a child, lost a mother, or are yearning to be a mother, I’m thinking of you today and every day. Happy Mother’s Day!

“A mother's love liberates.” — Maya Angelou

Bloom Village Scoop - May 5, 2024

Bulldog Village,

This week is KSA testing week for Bloom. While the Kinders through 2nd grade aren't taking the KSA, they will be encouraging our student leaders as well as being calm for the school vibes.

The KSA is an important metric that we do take seriously, however we also know that compassion, self-care, being kind, being able to make friends, art, music, etc. are also important skills learned at Bloom. My expectation is simple: students just try their best without stressing out or being filled with anxiety. You and I already know how smart they are!

Let's a wonderful week! Smile. Be kind. Support our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.

😢 BLOOM ARRIVAL (& DISMISSAL): There are only two ways to make the arrival and dismissal systems work correctly (1) Bloom families follow the laws, rules, procedures, and processes which have been communicated all year and in fact for the last 10 years I've been principal or (2) PTA will need to spend funds to get an off-duty police officer to be on Lucia. We are not allowed to direct traffic and we are not going to chase down and yell at our families - that includes Bloom staff and Bloom caregivers. Here are a few reminders of what has been communicated regularly all year:

Laws 🚨:

Smart and Helpful Requests 🫂:

If you have been breaking the laws, procedures, and/or our arrival/dismissal procedures we know who are, know that you know better, and we ask that you be a part of our Bloom Village. Additionally, those of you stopping on Lucia and letting your child cross the street are in fact endangering not only others' children but directly your own. Please stop cheating - it's not worth it, I promise.

CAR RIDER ARRIVAL: Car rider arrival is open from 7:00a - 7:40a in the back alley ONLY. Do not use Lucia to drop your child off in the morning; do not use the side alley to stop and drop your child off. There is only one place cars dropping off students should be and that's the back alley from 7a-7:40a. If you don't like the line, from 7:00a - 7:20a it's a short and quick line. #ThisIsTheWay

ARRIVAL VOLUNTEERS: While we do have Arrival Volunteer opportunities (CLICK HERE), no one is allowed to direct traffic - by law - unless you're LMPD - and my expectation is that the Bloom Village can be kind and adult enough to follow the laws and rules and not waste the time of our local police officers. So, if you're interested in smiling and greeting students in the morning, check out the link above.

DRESS-UP DAYS: WEAR A BANDANNA DAY - Tomorrow, Monday, May 6th we invite everyone a bandanna in solidarity with our KSA champions. The remaining dress-up days are:

🌈RAINBOW CLUB CELEBRATION: Please join us for the Rainbow Club's 3rd annual Rainbow Club Celebration - an end-of-the-school-year fun day. Your whole family is invited to bring a picnic and enjoy family fun games and activities. Hot Mess Sports will be leading games; LFPL will be sharing books and stories. All students must be accompanied by a caregiver. The Rainbow Club Celebration is Wednesday, May 8th from 5:30p-6:30p at Bloom Elementary.

📖 BOOK RETURN HOUSE CHALLENGE: Send in your Bloom Library books ASAP. There's a challenge to see which House can return 100% of their books first. C'mon CREATIVITY (that's my House of course). We will send out the numbers soon - in the meantime help your child(ren) return those books tomorrow.
