For a map of Xfinity WiFi hotspots, visit www.xfinity.com/wifi. Once at a hotspot, users should select the “xfinitywifi” network name in the list of available hotspots and then launch a browser.

Conifer-area public WiFi: The following businesses and public facilities have agreed to allow Conifer students the use their public WiFi from their parking lots to do schoolwork:

Securly web filtering

As you are helping to facilitate remote learning, you might see your student be prompted to log into Securly to use an internet browser. Securly is the application that manages web filtering on Jeffco-issued devices when they are being used outside of the Jeffco network. Your student’s @jeffcoschools.us address and password should log them into the application with no issues.

In addition, Jeffco is in the process of launching the use of the SecurlyHome app for parents/guardians to use to monitor their students’ activities on their Jeffco devices. This has been turned on district-wide, but the welcome emails are being delivered slower than expected. Visit the public website for more information about Securly and the SecurlyHome app.

Applications for smartphones and tablets

If you are using a smartphone or tablet for remote learning, the following free applications should be downloaded onto the device:

Google Classroom (App Store / Google Play)

Google Docs (App Store / Google Play)

Google Drive (App Store / Google Play)

Google Slides (App Store / Google Play)

Chrome extensions

There are a lot of Chrome extensions that support learning by making material more accessible or providing tools that make it easier to do certain tasks. Here are a few our students use:

All Jeffco students have access to EquatIO, a Chrome extension that allows users to enter equations, formulas, and graphs into G Suite documents (Docs, Sheets, Slides) using a keyboard, a digital handwriting tool, or speech dictation.

Line Height Adjuster is a Chrome extension that allows users to adjust the spacing between lines on web pages for increased readability.

OpenDyslexic is a Chrome extension that can change any web-based text into the OpenDyslexic font, which assists people with dyslexia in decoding and reading with fluency. It works on all documents and web pages if the extension is running.

All Jeffco students have access to Read&Write, a Chrome extension with multiple literacy tools including text-to-speech reading, word prediction, and other tools to enhance reading comprehension and understanding.

Smart TOC is a Chrome extension that creates a floating table of contents for web pages that use HTML heading tags properly.

Voice typing is part of Google Docs and Slides when you are using a Chrome browser.
