Turning in Assignments

Transcript: Turn in Assignment: Google Classroom

Okay, so you've logged into your Google Classroom, you've selected a class, and you see that you have some due dates. [highlighted cursor moves over items in the stream on a Google Classroom page that are notifications of new assignments that have been posted]

So let's say someone posted an assignment - we're in Stream, so we can see if there's a new assignment [highlighted cursor moves over items in the stream]. I can also click on Classwork [highlighted cursor moves over top of Classroom page, which displays the choices Stream, Classwork, and People] -- if I click on Classwork [highlighted cursor clicks on Classwork and page view changes from Stream to Classwork], it will let me see a list of my work and if I've gotten it done or not. [As Classwork page loads, a window pops up with the title "Track your progress", description "See a list of your work and its current status", and a a blue button with white text that says "Got it"]. So I'm going to go ahead and click on "Got it".

So let's say I have to do this assignment right here, which is Make a Book Trailer. So I'll click on it [highlighted cursor moves down list of five items, selecting and clicking on the second item, which says "4/2/20 Make a Book Trailer"] and it automatically - I stole Austin's email for a minute - it automatically made me a Google Doc. [The clicked-on item expands to show a posted time and date, assigned status, a brief text description of the assignment, and a document preview that says "Austin Baker - We Video ..." to the right of the preview image.]

So I'm going to go ahead and click on this [highlighted cursor clicks on the document preview, which changes the screen to a Google Doc] because my teacher did the make a copy for everybody, so it puts the first and last name in there, We Video Book Trailer [highlighted cursor moves over the document title, which says "Austin Baker - We Video Book Trailer"].

So here's my assignment [highlighted cursor moves over body of document]: that I had to do a book trailer, there is a rubric, there are some examples, and after I finish, that I have to put the link below. [highlighted cursor clicks after the word "LINK:" in document, which becomes an i-bar cursor] So I will go ahead and put my link down there [a URL is pasted into the document after the i-bar cursor].

So the teacher assigned this work, I took my time, I read my book, I did my book trailer, I looked at the rubric, I checked out the examples, I made my own WeVideo, and I went ahead and put the link in there.

So then how do I turn it in? If we all just shared our our documents with the teachers, it would be a lot for them to look through. If I just tried to e-mail them, it would be a lot for them to look through. But up here, in the right hand corner, there's a thing called TURN IN. [highlighted cursor moves to upper right of document pane, where a there is a pale gray button with darker gray text that says "TURN IN" to the left of the blue button with white text that says Share"].

I'm going to click TURN IN. [highlighted cursor clicks on TURN IN and a window pops up with the title "Turn in your work?", followed by the description "1 attachment will be submitted for "4/2/20 Make a Book Trailer", a tiny Google Doc icon with the title "Austin Baker - We Video Book Trailer", and two text links, one gray text that says Cancel and one blue text that says Turn In]

Once I click on "Turn In", it will ask if I'm sure I want to turn in my work [highlighted cursor moves over "Turn in your work?" window] and will show there is one file attachment, so I click Turn In. [highlighted cursor clicks on blue Turn In text, which changes to gray text that says "Turning in..."]

So I had to click on TURN IN up here first [highlighted cursor moves up to upper right of document], then Turn In, and now it says it's turned in [screen now shows the assignment due date, name, points, assignment poster name and posted time/date, and the brief description of the assignment; to the right, two panes are titled "Your work" and "Private comments"; the highlighted cursor moves over the "Your work" pane]

Now that it's turned in, I cannot mess with it anymore unless I unsubmit it.

So if I go back over to my class [highlighted cursor moves to upper left of window and clicks on class name, just to the right of the three-horizontal-line menu button, and screen changes to Stream view of class], it tells me that I still have one more assignment coming up [highlighted cursor moves over a pane with the title "Upcoming" to the left of the stream items].

If I go to Classwork [highlighted cursor moves to top of Classroom page, which displays the choices Stream, Classwork, and People, and selects Classwork, then screen changes to Classwork view] it will show that this one [highlighted cursor moves down list of five items, selecting and clicking on the second item, which says "4/2/20 Make a Book Trailer", which expands to show a information as before, only now the assigned status says Turned in], Make a Book Trailer, if I go to here, it will tell me that I already have it turned in. [highlighted cursor moved over the assignment status that says "Turned in"]

So that's how you turn in an assignment in Google Classroom.
