Welcome to Second Grade

Ms. Broaddus

Hi, I am Ms. Melissa Broaddus! I student taught at Vanderhoof 21 years ago and this has been my home ever since. I have been in Colorado most of my life, although the ocean has my heart. I am a Jeffco graduate as well and love teaching and supporting the district that I was once a student in. I received my undergrad degree from Metro State in Denver and my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Colorado Christian University. I have wanted to be a teacher ever since my 5th grade teacher Mrs. Nelson inspired me. She made such a difference in my life at such an impressionable age and we are still in touch today! I am honored and blessed to teach and pour into the lives of children.

At home, I am blessed with an amazing son, my dachshund Koda, and kitty Baxter. Tanner is a very busy almost 21 year old who also works as a manager at Starbucks and attends CU Denver. We are both often coming and going with our busy schedules, but enjoy spending time together as often as we can. Koda and I volunteer at Children’s Hospital in the pet Therapy Program and really enjoy giving back. Koda also works here at Vanderhoof and usually comes to school on Fridays to love on kids.

As I get older, I realize that the little things in life matter the most! I enjoy time with family and friends, game night, a good movie, traveling (even though I do not like to fly), volunteering, laughing, and giving back to causes dear to my heart. Paying it forward and kindness are things I am passionate about. I am thankful for all of my opportunities and experiences that I have been blessed me with. I love Starbucks Pink Drinks, the color purple, the beach/ocean, flip flops and buttercream frosting!

I am excited to embark upon another year of learning, growing, and teaching your precious children. It is a true gift to be able to call all of you my “School Family!”

Mrs. Kay

My name is Mrs. Mandey Kay. I absolutely love teaching and am incredibly honored to be teaching second grade here at Vanderhoof! This will be my first year at Vanderhoof and I look forward to working with an amazing team of educators. Mrs. Meyers, my second-grade teacher, inspired me to become a teacher! I have taught Kindergarten and first grade prior to this year. I am a Colorado native and attended Jefferson County schools through high school. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of Colorado Denver and a Master of Arts in Elementary Education from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

Outside of teaching, you will find me spending time with friends and family, reading, camping, swimming, or binge watching my favorite TV shows. I married my best friend, Eric, in 2016 and we currently live in Westminster. We have a ¨fur baby¨ named Apollo who has a lot of energy and gets a lot of attention!

Second grade is such an amazing year full of academic, social, and emotional growth and I am thrilled to be on this journey with your child! I believe that every child can learn given the right environment. I truly look forward to getting to know each and every one of you this year!

I look forward to a wonderful year teaching your child!
