Ms. Cole’s Science Classroom Guide

Daily Classwork & Homework: Unfinished classwork becomes homework and must be completed promptly. Optional practice and review materials are regularly posted on Google Classroom.
Assignment Structure: Grades reflect student understanding across four categories: Lesson Check-Ins, Practice Activities, Learning Checkpoints (quizzes/small projects, which can be redone for full credit), and Learning Demonstrations (final tests/major projects).
Checking Grades: Please monitor your student’s progress through Infinite Campus. If you're child has an M, please ask them to complete this missing assignment as soon as possible.

When Your Student Is Absent: Students are responsible for missed learning. They should check the online science calendar on Google Classroom to view slides, readings, and complete missed assignments. Upon return, paper handouts can be picked up from the classroom absent file.
Late Work Credit: Missing work can be turned in for credit up until the end of the current unit. Once submitted, students must complete the online Late Work Google Form to alert me that their work is ready to be graded. https://forms.gle/kVyFigeppCoBXV3J9

Best Way to Reach Me: Email is the fastest way to communicate. Please allow standard school hours for responses.
Student Extra Help: Students who need additional academic support can meet with me during WIN time, via email, or after school (pre-arranged with parent permission and transport).

Daily Required Supplies: Students must bring a fully charged Chromebook, a sharp pencil, wired headphones, and an independent reading book to class every day. All other materials that are needed will be provided.
Food, Scent & Allergy Policy: Our classroom is a scent-free and food-free zone to protect students with allergies. Body sprays and perfumes must be applied at home or in the restroom - or not at all! :) If a student urgently needs a snack, they may request a 1-minute hallway break to eat. Water bottles are always permitted.
Fidgets: Fidgets are only allowed in my classroom if they follow these rules: small, silent, can remain out of sight (in hands under the tables, in laps, or in backpacks), and kept solo - no sharing fidgets.

Rules: My rules all center around every student's right to learn and my ability to teach. As students grow as scientists throughout the year, we focus on responsibility and being good to each other.
Positive Incentive System: Students earn ROAR tickets which can be redeemed at the school ROAR cart.
Reset Reflections: If a choice repeatedly disrupts learning, students fill out a Reset Form to reflect on the impact of their choice, identify the expectation missed, and create a plan to get back on track. I will contact parents/guardians as needed to communicate about classroom behavior.
