I applied for two HESTL credentials in the 24-25 school year. As a 20 year classroom teacher, I really love to create lessons that are engaging and meet all students needs. I have found through my first year as a DTL, I really enjoy supporting staff with tech integration in their classrooms as well. Designing a lesson plan, modeling, and co-teaching is one of my favorite parts of this role as a Digital Teacher Librarian.
The Library Environment is the credential I believe is so important because it builds the culture of the school and creates the hub for building. Creating a space that students and staff feel safe in was a top priority for me. The space needs to host the community and feel welcoming for all stakeholders. A variety of different spaces, seating, activities, and events allow for everyone to feel valued and have their needs met in many ways.
The HESTL Planning Credential is one that I really enjoyed working through and applying for. Focusing on my core values, our school UIP goals, students needs, staff needs, and community needs, I created a plan to develop this space over multiple years. The documents are working documents that can be modified and changed as needs of our school community change.
Secondary libraries across the district are struggling with students reading for pleasure. While meeting with a DTL lead, we discussed creating an interactive display to grab students attention. This project was mostly student generated and created. They picked the books to display and helped choose all of the photos to use. Students became engaged with this display and had a lot of fun designing it. They are already working on designing a second interactive display to pull more students in.
This display was created to engage more students in checking out choice reading.
Red Qr Codes are linked to online reading resources. Our school currently has a Lightbox subscription that has interactive non-fiction books.
Black QR codes are attached to youtube videos. They allow for students to engage with the content in multiple ways.
Students designed ransom notes to put up around the school to advertise our display.
