Curriculum

Who is my community?

In this unit we will explore the multiple communities that we are part of. We will learn that for a community to function all members take and give back to the community. We will talk about similarities and differences that we have and celebrate them!

What is different about today?

We will learn that our natural environment goes through many changes. We will focus on weather, daily time patterns, notice what happens with different organisms during different times, learn about earth materials etc.

Past, Present and Future

In this unit we will begin to build an understanding of passage of time. We will talk about what happened today and what happened yesterday, in our classroom and in our lives. Through these investigations, we will gain an understanding of what history is.

What's the Matter in Your Motion?

We will spend 6 weeks exploring states of the matter and motion. First we will explore solids, liquids, gases, what happens to ice when it is heated. We will also learn about hibernation through play and build habitats for Arctic animals in block center. We will explore snow and winter weather through process art and books.

Next we will ask: What happens when an object moves? What are the different kids of force? Finally we will explore gravity - the force that keeps us on the ground. We will learn about space through reading, building a rocket and process art.


Is What I want, What I Need?

In this unit we will engage in experiences through which we will learn how money is earned and make choices on how to spend and save money.

Living and Non-Living: How Do I Know?

In this unit we will look for and describe patterns of what plants and animals need to grow and reproduce. We will learn about different habitats and investigate them!
