This is my first year at Secrest, although it is my fifth year as an elementary school SELS.  I was a middle and high school counselor in Jeffco beginning in 2002. 

Just as we teach subjects such as reading, writing and math, we now teach social emotional learning. 

Topics such as self management, communication skills, relationship skills and responsible decision making are taught and re-taught. These skills allow for students to be highly successful learners and overall better human beings.

I support our teachers in teaching Second Step (a standout SEL curriculum), executive function skills, Positive Behavior Intervention Support, as well as Restorative Practices. 

In addition to classroom lessons I also run small groups.

I am originally from Virginia  and lived in Flagstaff, AZ before moving to Colorado. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, cooking and spending time with my wife, our dogs and my two daughters (25 and 22.)
