National Merit Semifinalist
Please join me in honoring William Mulhern, Owen Lodder, Tenley Kruse, Jordan Kauffman, and Vivian Shi for being recognized as National Merit Semifinalists! From the approximately 1.6 million students who entered the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 16,000 were named Semifinalists. Semifinalists are the highest scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors. Although Semifinalist qualifying scores vary from one state to another, the scores of all Semifinalists are extremely high. In order to advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, these Semifinalists will need to fulfill several requirements in order to become Finalists. The list of Finalists will be released in February. For those recognized as Finalists, they will be considered for one of the 7,500 Merit Scholarships. Congratulations to these students for their hard work and academic excellence! If you would like to learn more about the National Merit Scholarship Program click here.
Signs of Suicide Lesson for 9th graders
On Monday, counselors will be teaching a Signs of Suicide lesson to 9th graders in Advisement classes. A letter about the lesson was emailed to all 9th grade parents on October 29. The lesson is a district-approved program that teaches students how to identify potential suicide risks and how they can access help. Students will watch age-appropriate videos and participate in guided discussions.
Senior Seminar Hours
Seniors need to have completed all 15 hours, including all of the required iSafe hours, of Senior Seminar before December 11. They will receive 0.25 credit and a "P" on their transcript for the 1st semester if requirements have been met.
10th Grade ICAP
On Monday, November 29, counselors will be meeting with 10th graders in their social studies classes to deliver the 10th grade ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan) curriculum. Students will be completing a career interest profiler in Naviance, which helps find potential careers by mapping interests and showing careers that link to their traits and educational aspirations.
Counseling Calendar
Check out our new Counseling Calendar! We have created this calendar to be a one-stop shop to keep you up to date with all the academic, college/career, and mental health events happening in our school and community. You can access it by going to the "Counseling Calendar" tab on the Counseling website. We will continue to add more information as details of upcoming events are finalized.
November is National Gratitude Month
Research has shown that gratitude can enhance moods, decrease stress, and improve overall health and wellbeing. Celebrate the month with your family by:
Sharing your gratitude with others. Letting someone know you're grateful for them can lift their spirit or lift a burden.
Showing your appreciation by giving back to your community.
Starting a family gratitude journal. Read aloud and reflect on your relationships and their accomplishments.
Congratulations!! We found out this week that we had eight students make it into All State Choir. This is a huge honor for these kids. The auditions they completed to be selected for All State is the hardest audition they have ever had, and likely will ever complete. These students will represent Ralston Valley at the All State Choir Festival in January. A lot of preparation was put into obtaining this honor. When they arrive, they will have to prove they have memorized the 5-8 pieces for the festival, and then they will rehearse for 2.5 straight days with their choirs and guest clinicians. Their final performance will take place at the Buell Theater on 1/22/22. Times are TBD.
Mixed Choir: James Adams (11), Chloe Brandow (12), Miguel Castillo (12), Kyle Green (12), Casia Provencal (12), and Greta Smith (12)
Treble Choir: Maddie Flanagan (12)
Tenor Bass: Choir: Grant Walker (11)
Ralston Valley's Dance and Cheer squads rocked this year's Jeffco Spirit Invitational on Wednesday Night at Arvada West. Varsity Dance took 1st Place in the Poms Division. JV Dance took 1st Place in the JV Poms Division. Varsity Cheer powered their way to a 2nd Place finish and Freshman Cheer took 1st Place in their division. Good Luck to all of our Spirit squads as they move through the remainder of their competition seasons.
Academic Skills Support
We have seen tremendous success with students who have attended the Student Success Center to receive support from Mrs. Tate and our classroom teachers. From organizing binders/backpacks, tracking missing assignments, emailing teachers, prioritizing assignments, and completing work, students have improved their skills and watched their grades improve. If your child could benefit from this support, please encourage them to attend the SSC in room L1101 during their off block. All students are welcome!
Attendance in the Student Success Center
All students earning 2 or more “F's” in any class are required to attend support in the Student Success Center, room L1101, during their off-block. Students will receive support from an Intervention Specialist and classroom teachers around academic skills to help them improve their habits and grades. Attendance will be taken and monitored by grade-level administrators. You will receive notification on Friday if your student is required to attend the following week.
Attendance During I.C.E.
All students are welcomed and encouraged to receive content-related assistance from teachers during I.C.E. All students earning a “D” or an “F” in any class are required to attend I.C.E. according to the schedule below. A course titled “Tutorial” connected to the teachers of a student has been added to their schedule. When a student is expected to attend I.C.E., attendance will be taken and families notified of absences.
Pre-arranged Absences
Absences of three or more days of school require a "Pre-Arranged Absence" Form. Criteria for approval are listed on the form. This form is available in the Attendance Office or the Counseling Website.
These absences include any absences not specifically covered by another section of the Conduct Code, such as family vacations,
college visits, or other extended absences to be excused per Jeffco district policy.
The deadline for winter sports registration is Friday, November 12th at 3 p.m. Late registrations may not be processed in time for tryouts on Monday, November 15. A valid athletic physical is required to register.
Practices for winter sports start on Monday. For students to tryout or practice they must have submitted a vaccination card to the office or a negative test result in the last seven days. If your child has not yet completed either of these, RV is home to a testing center that will be open Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Parents need to fill out this consent form to allow their child to be tested.
The Ralston Valley volleyball team are regional champions and state qualifiers this season with wins over Douglas County and Liberty High School. They opened the state tournament with a 3-1 win against Highlands Ranch Thursday morning. In their afternoon match they lost to Cherry Creek, before defeating Pueblo West 3-0 Friday morning. The team is still competing Friday afternoon against Valor Christian and with a win will be in contention to place this year with matches on Saturday.
Football starts the post-season tonight with a game at the NAAC against Cherokee Trail. The 8-2 Mustangs are looking poised to make a late season run.

COVID Testing Room
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the testing room will be open from 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. moving forward. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, RV’s testing room will be open from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Each room has an exterior door on the Northside of the school that students can use to enter the building for privacy. Entrances are labeled with yellow arrows on the map.
Students will need a consent form filled out prior to the first test. You can electronically fill out the consent form at this link. If the consent was filled out for testing last week, your student will be good for the remainder of the year.
You may prefer to have your student test at an alternative location like Walgreens, King Soopers, CovidCheckCO, or your family physician. All are acceptable. All your student needs to do is provide formal documentation from the test provider that shows a negative test result for that week. Please know that at-home tests will not be accepted.
A few reminders, please screen or have your students self-screen for any COVID symptoms before sending students to school. Please contact me (Kristie.Charron@jeffco.k12.co.us) for any student with a positive COVID test. If your student will be taking any medication at school, please complete the medication agreement form, have your doctor sign, and return to the nurse (this is also for any over-the-counter medications).
Please also continue to send state allergy, asthma, and seizure plans to myself or our health aide (michelle.hanson@jeffco.k12.co.us) in the main office. If your student has any new or existing health concerns that require a health plan, please contact the nurse so that we can get a health plan in place for your student at school.
I have included the link for the Jeffco Health Services Website which has the necessary forms to complete for medications at school.

With a focus on value, color, and movement, the Inter/Adv Drawing and Painting students worked collaboratively to honor current and former members of the armed services for Veteran's Day. Using a variety of materials, each student was tasked with drawing or painting one section of the American flag while matching up with any adjacent tiles. The two classes met separately, which challenged students to communicate both visually and through written feedback but in the end, all felt the end result was worth the effort.
Students used string, crisscrossing around the classroom, demonstrating their understanding of the complexities of historic globalization. They researched evidence, showing how topics in world history between 1450-1750 all interacted with and influenced one another.
French Honor Society had a very busy week celebrating National French Week! They enjoyed taking part in the Top Chef French version (the secret ingredient was crème fraiche!), the French waiter's race, French games at lunch, a chocolate mousse making contest, and a chocolate mousse eating contest.
Ralston Valley's Robotics Team competed last weekend in the BEST Robotics Competition. Competing against other robotics teams from around the state, Ralston Valley finished in the top eight. Student met on Saturdays for most of the semester to create their robot, and their booth to present their robot.
