According to College Board:
"AP Precalculus prepares students for other college-level mathematics and science courses. Through regular practice, students build deep mastery of modeling and functions, and they examine scenarios through multiple representations. The course framework delineates content and skills common to college precalculus courses that are foundational for careers in mathematics, physics, biology, health science, social science, and data science. "
They go on to suggest that "AP Precalculus does not have to be followed by AP Calculus AB or BC." However, we know that the vast majority of our students at Chatfield who have taken precalculus courses in the past (Trigonometry & Math Analysis) have gone on to take AP Calculus. We are thus committed to making sure students are as prepared for Calculus with this new course as they were with our highly successful Honors Trig/Math Analysis program of the past.
THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT AP PRECALC
A Precalculus course will take algebra skills and use them to make larger connections regarding functions and mathematical phenomena. (If a student does not have strong algebra skills, it is advised they strengthen them before embarking on a precalculus adventure.) See the AP Precalulus Overview below for more specifics.
Our primary technology tools will possibly include:
AP Classroom, Desmos, GeoGebra, Google Classroom, Khan Academy
YouTube, and, of course, your trusty TI nspire calculator.
If a student begins struggling with any content during this course, it will be very important for them to get help as soon as possible because the topics of this course are very closely related and build on each other fairly quickly. The best times to get help are: Advisement, After School (by appointment), possibly Study Lab (which can only be attended by teacher request).
Remember, Study Lab is NOT a punishment... it is a chance to get extremely focus help with a small group of students who need help with the same topics/concepts.
This year's AP Precalculus Exam will be administered on May 13 at 12:00 PM.
