2nd Grade Homework Expectations:

*The following are suggestions to help your child at home. Formal homework will not be assigned. We value that students have extracurricular activities and family time is important. These are some ideas you can incorporate into everyday life.
READING= 20 min.
Reading aloud to a family member
Students may use a just-right library book or other books at home.
Students can also get on the Lexia website at home to practice reading skills.
Try having your child record themselves reading and listen to it back.
Perform a reader's theatre or puppet show with a script to follow. Free scripts
Flashlight reading before bed!
MATH= 10 min.
Non-screen options for MATH***
Card games & flashcards are a great "no screen" option to build fact fluency for +/- skills to 20 with mental math.
You can also play a variation with multiplication (repeated addition) if your child wants a challenge.
Deck of Card Games- pdf (Avoid the decimal and pre-algebra games at the bottom of the document. ;)
This card game is a hit with kids to build +/- fact fluency! Snap-it-Up!

Due to Chromebooks being kept at school, online homework practices are at your discretion using devices you have at home.
Spelling= Ask your child to spell words with the weekly focus sound
No weekly list to study, just a sound focus for the week. This is listed weekly in my email for the Week at a Glance. Here is a link to the spreadsheets with the sounds we will focus on for the year.
