In the first part of this unit we study how the US Constitution was written. We look at important terms like "checks and balances" and "federalism". Once we have an overview of the US Constitution and how it was written, we can break it down into it's main parts and work to better understand the structure and function of each piece.
In this "mini unit" we look at the varying roles of a campaign and students demonstrate how they can participate in the political process.
We will specifically look at the requirements to serve in the legislative branch and better understand the important process of how laws are made.
In this portion of the unit we look at the qualities we look for in a president and work to gain a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the office itself. We also examine the role of the Cabinet and how each department advises the president.
We finish our study of the US Constitution by looking at the role of the judicial branch as it interprets the laws. The make up of the Supreme Court is examined and we study some of the most important court cases that have helped shape the course of US history.
