Symptoms can be mislabeled as just a teenager thing, as many of the symptoms look the same as normal teenager changes or moods.
Taking note of these changes and asking about them instead of just trusting it to be normal is the best way to prevent this from making mental illness worse.
The way mental illnesses are displayed on TV play a role in how we see them. Common misconceptions include:
-Mental illnesses must be triggered by an event
-People with mental illnesses are prone to violence
-Theraphy doesn't help and therapists don't understand
In fact, the existence of most mental illnesses doesn't depend on an event or even situation at all, mental illnesses do not lead violence (although other factors do,) and the right therapist can help and will understand entirely while offering new ideas.
Stigmas around mental health include weakness, attention seeking, being lazy, overexaggeration, and faking it for revenge,
Be more open to trusting and listening to people going through this to help get rid of the stigma.
