Field Trip:

December 3: Drums of the World Colorado Symphony field trip 9:00 am -11:30 am

Family Day: Friday (11/22) we will be spending the morning with our family group. We will be doing community service around the school and enjoying our time together with games. Later in the afternoon, our advising group is planning on watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

Food on Living History Night – December 18th

We are all greatly looking forward to our celebration of learning December 18th. On this night we are offering the option for families to bring food that was traditional during colonial times.

This YouTube channel is an excellent resource for recipes and information. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4e4wpjna1vwt3DfT1_lrjQJmA1u0X4vr

Our idea is to have samples of food from the period – not a full meal. If your family would like to provide some food for the evening please:

· Let us know

· Provide a full ingredient list to prevent allergy complications

· Have your child write a short statement about the food to help participants understand the context and importance of the meal

Revolutionary War Study: Right now your child's only job at home, for this project, is to;

1. Immerse themselves into the life of this figure! Check out books from the library, watch videos, listen to podcasts, talk to their family about what they know and what they want to know about this figure!

2. Start thinking about their costumes! Examine and research what their figure might wear and start rummaging through clothes in the house! Check out the FREE Jefferson County costume shop at this link: http://www.jeffcoschoolsfoundation.org/costume-shop.html. Please do not buy any items for this costume! We have plenty of time to put together outfits and have use of the Jeffco Open School costume room as well. We will work together to get your child what they need.

Reading or Math Homework: No homework over break!

Choice Time Volunteers: Parents we would love for you to lead a choice time activity! IA Choice Time is every Monday from 10:00-10:45. This year we are trying out a new sign-up system and have availability each week for up to 4 parents. Check out the new sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805084FAAA62AA6F49-iachoice

December 3: Drums of the World Colorado Symphony field trip 9:00 am -11:30 am

Revolutionary War Study: We have begun diving into the world of one Revolutionary War figure. Right now your child's only job at home, for this project, is to;

1. Immerse themselves into the life of this figure! Check out books from the library, watch videos, listen to podcasts, talk to their family about what they know and what they want to know about this figure!

We will do all the big work in school (the bulk of the research, taking notes, writing an autobiography of their notable figure and more). If your child wants to do more at home, please focus on the two items above. Books, articles as well as written and printed research can be brought in to school, but this is not required.

Passion Projects: Many students are beginning work on their final presentation for their passion projects. I will discuss classroom routines, curriculum and answer any questions you may have about life in the IA. Hope to see you there! This night is intended for parents only.

Arriving On-Time to School: We have had several students arriving 10-15 minutes late each day to school (our specials time). This time is valuable to your student as well as Rosie, David and Tom. Please remember that if you arrive early to school, your student can drop off their belongings in class. If they are late, they need to check in with the office and head straight to specials.

Choice Time Volunteers: Parents we would love for you to lead a choice time activity! IA Choice Time is every Monday from 10:00-10:45. Integrated Arts in the IA (from Tom): Students spent the last 2 weeks in the Art Room, working on a reflection project related to their camping trip. They used limited materials (in the spirit of camping) to create artwork that depicted a memory, story or lesson from their trip, and created a display that will hang in the Commons Area starting next week. They also received and decorated sketchbooks that will be used as sketchbooks/journals/notebooks for Integrated Arts throughout the year. These will primarily remain in the Music Room or Art Room, though students may bring them home from time to time. Classes will return to the Music Room next week to begin a 6-Week Music Unit that focuses on assessing, establishing and advancing basic musical skills: group vocal technique, melodic and rhythmic musicianship and listening skills. Activities will include choral singing, playing instruments (ukulele, piano, unpitched percussion), O Passo (see www.opasso.com.br) and various listening activities. Art will resume on November 4th.

Since we will be eating morning snack in the classroom, this snack will need to be either fruits OR veggies, no dips please. This is to help keep safe, all students with allergies in the classroom. Afternoon snacks can be a healthy snack of your choosing. This snack is eaten outside and lessons the risk of students coming in to contact with allergens. Please no soda or candy.

Helpers Needed: The IA is looking for 3 or 4 parent helpers to hang items in the hallway. Please let me know if you are able to assist next week.

· How reading stamina is going for them

· What genre they are reading

· One thing they really enjoy about being in the IA

Schedule: A tentative daily schedule is available on my website. This year, we have specials every day from 8:30-9:10. This schedule changes every other Friday, with PE moving to 11:20 -12:00. I will post in my newsletter what Friday specials we will be having this week, so students and family can plan accordingly.

Scholastic Book Orders: I will be sending Scholastic book orders home throughout the school year! Our class earns points towards new books with each order! Check out the flyers in Friday folders this week!

Morning Routine: Because we have specials right away each morning, our class has decided that they would like to make a brief stop in the classroom each day BEFORE specials, to drop off bags, coats and lunches.

To respect start times of both PE and Integrated Arts, please adhere to our new class norms for specials:

-If you arrive to school 5 or 10 minutes early to school, please swing by the classroom to drop off belongings before going to specials.

-If you arrive right at 8:30 or later, please go straight to specials. Do not swing by the classroom.

Monday/Wednesday: P.E.

Tuesday/Thursday: Integrated Arts

Assessment Day: This is NOT a regular school day. Your child should only show up for their assigned time slot. Reminders were sent home this week.

Friday folders: I would love each student to bring in a folder, to be used for Friday folders each week.

Wish list and Classroom Items: I have classroom supplies and a wish list of classroom items on my website, under the tab; ‘Wish list and supplies for student’. Check it out! I would be grateful for any items you are able to donate.

Snacks and Water Bottles: I encourage all students to bring a water bottle to school each day, along with 1 or 2 snacks. They are welcome to leave their water bottle at school too. We have a brain break/snack time every morning and afternoon.

Back to School Night: Wondering what life is like in the IA? We will be hosting a Back to School night after we return from our Fall camping trip. We will talk curriculum, procedures and classroom routines as well as answer any questions you may have about the IA. Look for details coming soon!
