STEM Capstone Class is a chance for students to address “real world” issues, and attempt to solve them using STEM. This course is designed to offer students a chance to apply skills learned in their endorsement pathway for problem based learning. In addition to designing projects based in science and engineering, students will have to consider aesthetics issues, communicate with community members, market their ideas to experts in the field and develop strong group dynamic skills. Students in STEM Capstone will need to be self motivated and self directed, the teacher will be more of a mentor to help students explore and design their own solutions to a problem.
This course is for students completing a STEM capstone. This capstone is a requirement for any students attempting to earn the STEM diploma endorsement and graduating in 2021 and beyond to may also be used to demonstrate readiness for graduation (2021 and beyond) in both math and English. All students using this option enrolled in this course will complete the following:
a portfolio of work demonstrating the completion of STEM and Math competencies and Generations Skills, as demonstrated by the STEM Capstone rubric.
a public demonstration of the STEM Capstone project.
