Our design uses a single top plate with a button underneath it, when the entire top plate is pressed down there is a single button in the middle that activates the LEDs. This design is much more simple and more reliable.
Lithium Ion Battery
Excess charging causes stress to the battery resulting in oxidation that reduces life and capacity. It can also cause safety issues as well. The battery cell could have thermal runaway, catching fire, and In the presence of water, li-ion will oxidize extremely rapidly and explode. Rechargeable Lithium lasts for 7 to 7.5 hours. Its cycle life is 300 to 500 charge cycles.
NiMH Battery
NiMH batteries offer a higher capacity than Nicad batteries and less capacity than Li-Ion. You can operate with them usually at -5 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit with no adverse problems. Their life cycle is generally lower than nicad, at 500-800 life cycles. They are much safer than Lithium-ion with thermal runaway.
Nicad Battery
Nicad has a longer life cycle than NiMH or Li-ion, with about 700-1000 life cycles. They have a charging problem called the "memory effect", if they don't get completely charged after each use, they will potentially only charge up to the last highest charge. The benefits of using a Nicad battery are extreme temperature tolerance
