Legal Environment of Business emphasizes public law, regulation of business, ethical considerations, and various relationships existing within society, government, and business. Specific attention is given to economic regulation, social regulation, labor-management issues, environmental issues, and contract fundamentals (all useful things to know whether you are a consumer, an employee or own your own business). Summative assessments will be project based and students will be required to participate in Future Business Leaders of America competitions and events. This course is a concurrent enrollment class through Red Rocks Community College, which means students can earn free college credit just for taking this class at Alameda International and passing with a C or better.

Business Communications emphasizes effective business writing and cover letters, memoranda, reports, application letters, and resumes. This course includes the fundamentals of business communication and an introduction to international communication. Students will learn how to utilize Microsoft Word software in creating their business communications and will sit for the Microsoft Word Certification test before the end of the semester. Summative assessments will be project-based and students will be required to participate in Future Business Leaders of America competitions and events. This course allows for individualized, advanced, and/or cumulative work in a program of study. This work is individualized to the student within a specific program of study to allow for specialized study. It may include problem-/project-based learning or preparation for industry certification. The specific content and course design is determined by the instructor, in collaboration with the individual student. CP Students may complete Work Based Learning: Business Marketing in place of this class.
Typically an entry level college course, Introduction to Health Careers is designed to familiarize students with various career pathways in medical and allied health professions. Students will investigate five primary healthcare pathways; Health Informatics, Therapeutic Careers, Diagnostics, Support Services and Biotechnology. Students will learn skills necessary for those healthcare pathways including; medical math, primary assessment techniques, legal and ethical responsibilities, cultural and linguistic considerations in healthcare, and patient advocacy. Transferrable inter-personal skills are also developed and include such topics as working with others, interview and communication skills, critical thinking and problem solving, as well as skills in personal responsibility and self management.
A two-semester course running the second semester junior year through the first semester senior year, Bi-lingual Medical Terminology is a one-of-a-kind course that teaches students medical terminology in both English and Spanish. Additionally, support for other languages such as Hindi and Vietnamese has been added as they impact our surrounding community. Vocabulary development includes anatomical terminology as well as field-related terminology in disease states, treatment, and therapeutic direction as well as information and record keeping common to medical and allied health fields. Additionally, cultural awareness and patient communication are foundational elements of the course. The course will be adapted to meet specific language and cultural competencies of each cohort. Students taking this class will have opportunities to do directed oral communication and translation work in the field through our semi-annual Bi-lingual Health Fairs, internships in the Alameda Sports Medicine program as well as with Denver Sports Medicine and other associated partners.
The Alameda EMR course is the Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder which is implemented with fidelity and is overseen and evaluated by the American Red Cross. This course prepares students to manage emergency medical situations they may experience as a part of their everyday lives, but especially in their roles in healthcare. Skills acquired include scene safety evaluation and patient assessment. Topics also include management of medical and trauma emergencies Injury/illness evaluation, as well as patient transport and stabilization. Finally, emergency treatment skills in First aid, CPR and AED use as well as bleeding control, airway management, and oxygen administration are taught, practiced, and assessed. Written and practical competency examinations are required for certification.
