Why DEVO?

DEVO is about building confident, capable riders in a low-pressure, fun environment. It gives middle schoolers a chance to learn real trail skills, ride with friends, and grow their love for mountain biking without the stress of racing. Whether your rider is brand new to trails or ready to level up, DEVO meets them where they are and helps them progress at their own pace.

What is the DEVO Team?

The DEVO Team is a middle school mountain biking program connected to the Golden High School Mountain Bike Team. It started in 2018 to help younger riders build skills, confidence, and a love for riding trails.

This is not a racing program. There are no league races and no pressure. The goal is to create a fun, supportive environment where kids learn how to ride safely and confidently while preparing them for high school riding if they choose to continue.

What we focus on

We keep things simple and skill-focused. Riders work on:

• Balance

• Stability

• Control

We take a one-step-at-a-time approach so riders can learn without feeling overwhelmed. Progress happens naturally as confidence grows.

Who can join?

• Students in 7th or 8th grade

• Riders who enjoy biking or want to get more comfortable on trails

It is not required, but we hope many DEVO riders will continue on with the Golden High School Mountain Bike Team in the future!

Do DEVO riders race?

No. DEVO riders do not participate in high school league races. This program is all about learning, riding, and having fun. There is one optional race this year, and if you don't want to compete, why not come along and watch!

Fees and registration

We operate a waitlist for our DEVO program once registration opens. If you're accepted into the program, registration includes:

• $215 GHS MTB Team fee, which includes a DEVO team jersey

• $95 Colorado Cycling League fee (required for insurance)

What does my rider need?

Each rider must have:

• A properly fitting, well-maintained bike

• A helmet and required safety gear

• A positive attitude and willingness to learn

Parent involvement

Parent support is a big part of what makes DEVO successful. We rely on families to help with practices, supervision, and general support during the season. More details are available on our Volunteers page.
