Devo Team

FOR KIDS 7TH & 8TH GRADE IN THE GOLDEN AREA

The Program:

This offshoot of the Golden High School Mountain Bike Team started in 2018. The Golden MTB Development Middle School Program was created to provide a bridge between family riding and high school racing. For the inaugural year we assumed we’d have 12-15 applicants, but we ended up with 28!

Middle School riders do not participate in the Golden High School League races. It truly is not a racing-oriented program, it is rather designed to provide your son/daughter a learning environment conducive to becoming more comfortable and confident while riding trails. We focus on Balance, Stability and Control. Work on one thing at a time since it's very easy to ‘overload the brain’ by using a scattered approach.

Who can participate & fees involved?

Riders in 7th & 8th grades from the Golden area will be considered for acceptance, and although it’s not a requirement, we hope that these riders will attend Golden High School and continue riding with the Team. If accepted into the program, you must register with the CO Cycling League and pay the League fees $85 (it's an insurance thing!). Then register with the GHS MTB team for $150 which includes a GHS DEVO jersey.  There  will be a $20 shipping charge that family has to cover for the jersey.

What is required from my kid & how does it work?

Your rider must have a serviceable, properly fitting bike and safety equipment. We usually meet right after school at Golden High School and ride from there to trails. We split up into groups depending on ability, but mostly ride South Table Mountain and the cyclocross track. Sometimes we ask parents to shuttle kids to other trails such as the North Table Mountain or Green Mountain. WE NEED LOTS OF PARENT SUPPORT FOR THIS PROGRAM! See our Volunteers info.
